While attending the 2008 Sundance Film Festival in the U.S., Harry Potter actor Alan Rickman briefly mentions
that he will start filming his part in Half-Blood Prince in February. Mr. Rickman also refused to answer any questions about his character, Prof. Snape, stating that by doing so would spoil the books for the fans that have not finished reading the series.
From the interview:
EW: Okay, I think your wranglers are giving me the signal, but I have to say, even before I go to the end of the Harry Potter books -
Mr. Rickman: Before you go further, I never, ever talk about that character. Number one, because it's not fair on kids who haven't read the end. And for me to say anything - there's a bit of it that just should be left innocent. It's real storytelling, what she's done, and I'm part of that. So I just never talk about it.
EW: When do you go back to shoot Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince?
Mr. Rickman: They're shooting six [now], and I start shooting my part of it beginning of February.
EW: It's a bigger part for you this time.
Mr. Rickman: Ahh.... There's important stuff. [Smiles]

Wow I had know idea. He is older that I thought. I guess always having seen him with black hair, I never guessed that in real life it could be greying or almost white. Did not realize he is as old as he is. Makes him look very handsome though.

I can't believe they are already starting all of this. At first I thought the initials EW stood for Emma Watson, not entertainment weekly.

He is going to be amazing because he plays such an important role and he is so good at it. It is very nice that he doesn't want to talk about the future books so he doesn't spoil anything for Potter fans.

I never knew that "fans" who haven't yet read the book existed. Nice of him to think of them though.

I didn't know he was at the Sundance film festival. So not he should be starting to film his part in HBP. That's nice of him to realize that not everyone has read HBP and want to find out what'll happen in the movie.

Important stuff? That's like the understatment of the century. I'm really interested to see how Snape is portrayed in this chapter... he's had a weird role in the last couple movies... almost used as comic relief in some scenes...which bugs me totally. I can't wait to see him in all his double-agent glory!

I bet it is so fun to play Professor Snape. It sounds like Alan enjoys it and he is protective of his character, good for him.

Very few readers still don't know the end of the series, and I doubt it's relevant to feel concerned about spoiling parts of HBP. He's excellent as Snape, so I'm waiting for the great moments in HBP.

He certainly is tight-lipped about his part...wonder if he feels that keeps up the mystique that is Severus Snape.
