Some news around the web today indicates that director Guillermo Del Toro, who has previously indicated
that he would be interested in directing Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, is in talks to direct The Hobbit and when producer David Heyman was asked to comment
on this he stated "that Del Toro was sadly not really in the running because he's rather busy."
There doesn't seem to be enough days in the year for Del Toro to tackle both the The Hobbit, with an expected release during 2010, and the last Harry Potter film also slated for a 2010 release.

Not a total surprise. Rumors are rumors. I would really love to have curon back for the last one. He really set the standard and tone going forward.

I hope they get David Yates to do the last one ... or maybe Alfonso Cuaron ... both are wonderful directors!

This is deeply saddening news, because I would have liked to see Del Toro direct DH, but I guess that isn't going to be possible.
To tell you the truth, I would love to see Yates come back for a 3rd time and direct DH. I think he did an amazing job on OotP, and I think he will do an amazing job with DH. The scene where Harry watched Sirius die, he put so much emotion in that scene(with harry silently screaming, but you could tell how much emotional pain he was in), it was just amazing.

I say they just play it safe and stick with the original director, since the first few movies were the best anyways.

Hmm... well, I don't know much about him anyways, so it could swing either way with me and I would be fine with it. As long as DH is spectacular- that is really all that matters for me.

I'm more upset that Del Toro is going to direct The Hobbit than not direct DH. He's not supposed to direct The Hobbit! No way! Only Peter Jackson can be director of that movie! In fact, it would be a real tragedy if anyone but Jackson was slated to direct. Jackson's GOT to do it.
I'm upset.

Well at least that rumour has been put to rest. I wonder who they are considering for directing Deathly Hallows? Whoever it is, I hope they do the movie justice. That's all I care about. Be true to the film.

What is wrong with the directors they have already used for the previous films? Why do they have to keep changing directors? I don't feel that they did such a horrible job. Oh well...it's Hollywood and what do I know? :)

Peter Jackson, forget your arguments with New Line Cinema's directors and direct THE HOBBIT....
The good news is that Del Toro won't direct DH.....

As long as it isn't Curon I will be happy. I just hope who ever gets to direct really gives the book all the props it should have in the movie and not be concerned with time and cuts.

When I first read that headline I thought that maybe Heyman didn't want Del Toro... now I understand. Del Toro is a busy man. But I'm sure they'll still pull off a wonderfully amazing 7th movie.... I would expect nothing less that brilliant.

There's still a ways to go before confirmed info on Deathly Hallow can be released. It sounds like Del Toro would have been a good director for the movie. I could only guess who would be up to direct DH.
