In an new interview
with Harry Potter producers David Barron and David Heyman both refuse to rule out the possibility of splitting seventh and final movie, The Deathly Hallows, into two films.
Mr. Barron states:
We are still discussing it. The announcement will be made hopefully in the not-too-distant future, with regards to the way seven shapes up.
The only negative of splitting the book into two films is that people could possibly perceive it as being one last chance at cashing in. But the real positive, if we were to do that, would be that we wouldn't have quite the battle we always have of 'How do you compress all that book into just over two hours of screen time?'
While Mr. Heyman says:
A couple of people have expressed interest, people have gotten a few calls and a few emails, but it's still a year away.
We won't start filming 'til February next year. So it hasn't really gone bananas yet. We've got thoughts, and I'm sure something will be announced in the not-too-distant future.
Also, during last nights BAFTA's event, actor Daniel Radcliffe dismissed
rumors that Steven Spielberg will direct the seventh movie:
I have no idea how that rumour started or where it came from. It's not true. How's that for a definitive answer?
It's absolute rubbish that Spielberg is directing the final film. It's not true. There's absolutely no foundation in that at all.
And says this about the currently filming of the film:
We're getting through it alright. I'm really enjoying it. We're about six months in and we've only got four more to go.

Why didn't they think of this when they made books four and five, and even the up coming sixth. Instead they cut the stories to bare minimun and left out so much of the memorable things that made the stories great.
I'm with the others who think that this is just a ploy to cash in on making more money. Too little, too late.
Blessings! Hecate3fold!

I agree with Hecate3fold - why didn't they do this for the fourth, fifth and the upcoming sixth movies? I don't know if this is just an attempt for them to get more money, but what I do know is that most people wouldn't mind spending more money on two movies and get total enjoyment, rather than watching a single movie and leaving disgruntled. The fourth movie wasn't that bad, but the fifth was really bad. I mean, so much was edited out! And I have to say some of the effects were a little over the board and didn't exactly follow the book, like the way wizards and witches Apparated and Disapparated. But never mind that, it's too late to complain about the fifth movie.
The point is, they should have done this earlier, and not just start talking about it for the last movie. I have no doubt that the movie being filmed at the moment - the sixth one - would have plenty of stuff edited out as well, and it would be so disappointing for so many people, seeing as how it is an important book in the series and for some like me, it is our favourite book. But I suppose we could always hope for the best.
All I'm saying is that this should have been done earlier rather than later.

It would be nice to see it in 2 films so they don't have to cut anything, but I agree with the needing of 2 plotlines to follow, it would be interesting to see how they do that.

Hmm.... I'm kind of over the waiting game. Just feeling impatient tonight I guess. And I'm not sure how I feel about the 7th being split into 2 movies. I guess it'll depend on how careful they are about continuity and such. But I sure would like to see more book content and that could be achieved by 2 movies. Plus a little more HP is ALWAYS a good thing!

Well..Dan didn't have to sound rude about it. In his quote he seems aggravated..but there really is no reason to be. So Spielberg was rumored to direct...there's going to be rumors anyway of who is going to direct Hallows.

I think I'm okay with the idea of two films for the seventh book, so that nothing gets cut. It's got to have everything in it, because it's the last one! So I kind of hope that they decide to split it in two.

Yeah, Daniel Radcliffe sounded overly aggravated; he has to be used to rumors by now, and a few of them have to be of a worse variety than over who will direct the last movie.
Not sure about the two movie thing. I mean in all honesty the movies arent terrific to me; i just go once to go; i dont buy them on dvd or anything. I'm not sure if I would be willing to go back to the theater twice to see two movies because even if they split it the movie still wont be anything special probably. The movies are good, not great.

Well I hope they split to so the detail all stay in. But I understand not splitting every movie because then it would be 14 films. Or at least 11 because the first 3 are not that long.

Wow, so 2 films for the Deathly Hallows is actually being considered. It really seemed like a 'nonsense-media-making-things-up-absolute-rumour' story. I hope they split it - how brilliant would that be!?

I'm still not sure how I feel about the possibility of splitting Deathly Hallows into two films. I don't think I would like that. As for Spielberg not directing the final film, I'm glad because I don't think he would do the movie justice.

As for splitting the movie, I'm sure it would be weird but it would be a really good thing after all, not having to cut so many lovely details.

If they split it into 2, that first movie is going to be the most depressing thing i have ever seen.
I'd wait for the release of them both onto DVD and watch them one after the other.
It's a rubbish idea.

Funny I am ok with the idea of two movies for the final book. Maybe then we won't have to see so much cut from the book. I just wonder how long we will have to wait between the releases of each film or if they will be released together. I am totally up for a "Gone with the Wind" intermission form of the movie. Oh well, not my decision. I am glad to hear Spielberg directing is simply rumor rubbish. I figured it was rubbish.
