With filming currently ongoing for the Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince movie, producer David Barron has confirmed
that there will be a new scene added to the movie featuring the Burrow.
We don't often have things that aren't in the book.
But this was brought in because Jo (Rowling) was able throughout the quite lengthy book to keep dropping little snippets of what was happening in the outside world-there'd be people reading newspapers and talking about how somebody's parents had been killed or somebody had been withdrawn from school because their parents didn't think it was safe. And we're made aware that the Muggle world is also experiencing these disasters, but thinks they are disasters rather than the work of Voldemort.
The book is peppered with those moments, but we couldn't do that quite so easily in the film. So (the extra scene) comes in the middle of the film and it just reminds us the world is no longer a safe place. Even in what would normally be considered the safe haven of the Burrow, nobody's safe. I think you'll like it. It's quite effective.

Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince will be released in November 2008.

Ooh, I like that idea. It's good because it is relevant to the story by dropping these hints about the dangerousness of the world. I'm looking forward to seeing it.

This movie better be longer than OoTP if thry're going to have a bunch of extras. I wonder how much book they cut out so it could be added? If it ain't broke, DON'T FIX IT!

Let's not get too inventive. That book has great moments and I'm not sure it needs much extra. Just put it on film!

Wow! They must have needed to add the scene to be able to link the story line like they did in GOF. There was so much they had to cut it wouldn't have made sense. Interesting Can't wait to see it!

You know I think I can be disappointed with this movie. I just hope that they keep the important events in the book and do not add useless made up scenes. For example, in GoF..moany myrtle flirting with Harry. Could have replaced those wasted minutes with something important to the plot.

RON's all up in heRmiONe -- that's funny you mention the Hermione calling Mr. Weasley "Arthur." I brought that up in the thread at IMDB :) I just seemed so bizarre to me.
The idea of a new scene doesn't really bother me either way, but I read it and it is BAD WRITING. Just awful. They should have had Jo write it herself. If she didn't, she needs to stick to books and not try screenplays ;)

I'm going to reserve judgement for when the film comes out, however the possibility of extra scenes that are not in the book make me loose faith in the film industry as a whole.
It was stated earlier that 'if it ain't broke don't fix it'.
Blessings! Hecate3fold!

Sounds good. So it won't be some extended talking scene, but perhaps just showing that everyone isn't safe anymore.

OK, it sounds as if it will add a flavour of the book, and I am supportive of adding more scenes to give us a wider perspective of the Magical World. OOTP was a great film but could have done with being 20 or 30 minutes longer, and little touches like extra scenes like this (hopefully using information from the book, and not just making something up) will improve the quality of the film.

Hey witch_in_muggle_clothing and RON's all up in heRmiONe!
I;m one of those guys on the IMDB thread as well. Got to agree that Kloves seems to have achieved new levels of terrible writing with this one. I mean, I like the idea of the scene and it can be executed really well. But if they stick to Kloves' script word for word, then it's not going to be any good at all. The dialog is just bland and there seems to be a HUGE narrative jump right in this one scene. Add Mark Day's wonderful[sarcasm] editing to that, and we'll have a masterpiece.
Gosh, here's hoping for the best.

I've seen a leaked Burrow scene, and I have to say it looks nice.. More because it lays a strong foundation to the plot of the story - the dangers, the ships in the film and the characters themselves. I like the H/G part in there, obviously...

I can see why it would be hard to fit in those scenes in the movie. They require actual civilian areas to be designed to look disaster struck. It would be difficult.

That is so exciting! I understand completely why they decided to add this scene to the movie, it might help those who haven't read the books (my mom and some of my friends).

Sounds like a pretty good idea actually, because then people who haven't read the book and just go and see the movie will have a clue about what's going on. And it'll probly give the movie a better feel to it, like how everything's mor darker.
Because I remember when I first read HBP and I certainly got the impression that it was darker than the fifth one.
But I hope it's good!

I personally think this is a goood idea. I like the fact that they are trying to show movie-gowers more and more of the harry potter world and the book, instead of the little they normally put in.

That's exciting! I like it. Normally I'd object to adding extra scenes into a movie already seriously lacking other scenes from the book, but this scene sounds intriguing. I'm all for it.

So (the extra scene) comes in the middle of the film and it just reminds us the world is no longer a safe place ...
How tantalising!! I want to know more!!
I agree with him that it is difficult to try and distil the entire book into a short movie, so it'll be excellent to have that undercurrent of what's happening in the "outside" world included in the movie ...
Can't wait!!
