Be sure to watch the CBS Early Show
on Friday morning in the U.S. as merchandise from Alivan's
(Makers of Fine Handcrafted Magic Wands) will be prominently displayed during a feature on college Quidditch teams.
Recently Quidditch games on college grounds have become popular
and one of these colleges, Middlebury College
, will be featured on the show during a visit to Amherst College in Amherst, MA to play one game during their eight-city tour during spring break.
Thanks to Dave from Alivan's for giving us the news.
UPDATE: You can now watch a video of how to play
the game as well as a play-by-play
video of this morning's game. Additional coverage can be found here
.

Nice to see a variation of the sport making the rounds in college. It would be interesting to see how they actually play it. As technology evolves maybe we will have a version closer to the book.

Just by looking at the little avatar next to this story, are they using broomsticks? I find that a little weird, because they're on the ground running, wouldn't it interfere a lot with the game? I don't think I'm going to watch the video, because these types of videos(directly on news websites) never work with my internet connection, and it's too slow, but I get the point of it.
I seriously think this is going to get popular, and there might actually be a Quidditch World Cup, but I think the game(how those students are playing it), needs advancements and fixes, stuff like that for it to be really popular. It would be so cool if in a few years, they create technology that can actually make those broomsticks fly, with some electronics and stuff like that, so it's really like quidditch(but the game should be played over a trapeze netting).

Wow, that's brilliant! My friends and I used to play 'quidditch' in primary school with a basketball net but it wasn't as cool as this. Wow. All we have to do now is wait for someone to invent real broomsticks and then we'll be well on the way to playing real quidditch. Wow.

I'm sorry to double-post but after watching the whole video, I have to say it's probably one of the most magical things I've ever seen. My goodness, we should start doing that in England. Did they say catching the snitch gives you 50 points? Ohmigosh don't they know anything? :0

That's incredible how popular Quidditch has become! Too bad there aren't any teams near me, but I guess to be actually playing it like this, with brooms and all, is still relatively new.

Nice, but I'll wait till Alivan patents the flying broomstick. Maybe a kind of high-scale simulator could be developed, but of course it's not worth the real thing.
