The Becker Group and Warner Bros. Consumer Products announced
today that it will bring worldwide Harry Potter: The Exhibition, highlighting artifacts from the Warner Bros. films based on J.K. Rowling's franchise. The exhibit will premiere in Spring 2009 in "a major market," and will appear in ten or more cities around the world throughout a five-year span.
UPDATE: The official site
is now online.
UPDATE II: Chicago's Museum of Science and Industry has been announced as the premiere venue of the exhibition, which will run from April 30 through September 7, 2009 before continuing its tour.
According to the release:
Harry Potter: The Exhibition will include elaborate displays of authentic costumes, props and artifacts from popular environments featured in the films such as those from Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, including the Gryffindor common room and Hagrid's hut. During its run, the exhibit will also be updated to include artifacts from the final installments of the Harry Potter film series. The exhibition will be displayed in major cultural and entertainment venues, museums and institutions, and will be supported by a multimedia promotional effort and advance ticket sales worldwide. Tour information, updates and ticket availability will be posted at www.harrypotterexhibition.com as details become available, or for more information, call 866-231-8328.
Brad Globe, president Warner Bros. Consumer Products added:
Fans around the world will finally be able to see the incredible craftsmanship and detail that went into creating their favorite props and costumes.

Please, please, please let it come to Australia. Preferably Melbourne hehe because that is where I live. Though knowing our luck Australia will miss out again. Sorry I just wish more things were open to us instead of just the United States and the United Kingdom.

This would be truly great to see. Always worthwhile. I have seen the StarWars version and it was a lot of fun. I can hardly wait to see it and hope that it comes to the West Coast.

Oh, I hope it comes somewhere near me! As a costumer, getting the chance to view the actual costumes and props up close is a huge boon in making reproductions of them, since you get to see details you can't usually catch on-screen, and you can see what the actual fabrics and trims used. Maybe they can sell a companion book too, with close-up photos of the items on display. How exciting!

Sounds really interesting! It seems that the chances are slim it'll be in my city this year, (Toronto, Montreal or Vancover will beat out Calgary I am sure) but I can cross my fingers tht it might make it around one of the following years.

If the exhibition comes nearby I will be very tempted to go see it, especially if it's the stuff that was featured in TV specials a few times during the promotion of OotP.

Now THIS is exciting news! I saw the Lord of the Rings exhibition at the Powerhouse Museum (in Sydney) and it was mind-blowing to say the least. So I reckon that this exhibition will finally show all the attention to detail that goes into each Harry Potter movie. Yes!

How wonderful! This is something I'd really like to see. All of the original things that were created for the movies on display. A moving functional Buckbeak is a must, a life sized Dobby, Arragog, what fun this will be! I'm sure it will come to the Chicago area at some point in time.
Can't wait!
Blessings! Hecate3fold!
