A new article
from Time magazine has a question and answer with Harry Potter artist Mary GrandPré in which she talks about what it was like going back and redoing Harry's image for an upcoming 10th anniversary edition
of Sorcerer's Stone, what her favorite book to draw was and more.
A little snippet from the article:
What was it like to go back and draw Harry as an 11-year-old [for the upcoming anniversary edition] now that his story has finished unfolding?
It was really a nice opportunity. As Harry grew, I always wished I could go back and make a new piece for each book. So when the anniversary cover idea came up, I was really excited to do that. It's like getting to do a new portrait of this old soul you really know.
Do you think you could render Harry at age 30, or age 60?
Sure. It takes time to draw and redraw, and to study his facial structure. The more I draw Harry, the more acquainted I become with him in my head. I try to use each previous drawing as a map for the next one. I need to start drawing to know what he'd look like. [Plus, J.K. Rowling] is such a visual writer. I've always looked to her writing as the main inspiration for the drawings. For a storybook or cover illustrator, the first responsibility is to draw from the writing. She makes it really easy because she's so descriptive.

That's such a huge task...because if you think about it. While Jo is writing Harry and letting us visualize him. Mary was the first one to say...Hey this is Harry! What fun that she got to do that, but I wouldn't leave it just to whoever. She's has done a fantastic job and I can't wait to see what her remake is going to look like!

I can't believe it's been 10 years since the first book! I have always loved the way Mary GrandPre' drew our beloved Harry and I think it's great that she can go back and draw and give us another image of 11 year old Harry. I miss that little boy. I hope she does draw Harry at 30 or 60 years old, I would love to see what he looks like and what her interpretation of him would be like at that age.

I am so excited! 10 year anneversery! I love the 1st book. Even though I think the 7th book was written the best, it was too sad to be my favorite. I have to say the 1st was my all-time favorite, and every time I read it, it seems to get better. Can't wait for the new illustrations!

I will definitely get that anniversary book, also it would be cool for her to draw him at age 30 as was as all the living Characters as they are older at the end of the series. I think it would be cool to see what they would look like 19 years later.
