The shorter-than-short Harry Potter prequel by author J.K. Rowling is now available to read online at Waterstone's web site. The story, handwritten on the front and back of a note card, was one of 12 from various authors auctioned for the bookseller's What's Your Story? charity fundraiser. Rowling's went for nearly $50,000.
It begins:
The speeding motorcycle took the sharp corner so fast in the darkness that both policemen in the pursuing car shouted...

UPDATE: The auction winner, Hira Digpal, president of Tokyo-based investment-banking consulting company Red-33, says that he wants to raise more money for charity with his purchase and has notified Rowling's publishers of his wishes:
Here I am, owning a piece of literary history. I think I got a bargain. Hopefully, we can raise much more than the sale.

Sirius and James reminded me of the Weasley twins, in how seamlessly they work together in their shenanigans. JK Rowling is really a great writer, and I can't wait for more from her.

Whats funny is I used to be teased that in middle school(elvendork) and santa's little helper (along with many other ear related names), which was ages ago since the tips of my ears would stick out when I wore my hair down.

Sirius is my favorite character (obviously) so I was totally stoked to read this very short passage about Sirius and James. I really believe Jo has a prequel in her but it might be years before we see something longer than 800 words. I will wait...patiently...with my fingers (and toes) crossed until that day comes (hopefully).

I've always said a full length MWPP-era Prequeal would be incredible!! So many things to find out!! So many stories!
-How did they become friends?
-How did they discover Remus's Secret?
-How did they become animagus?
-What led Sirius to comitt the "prank" ?
-How did James finally make Lily go out with him?
-When did Peter start to go to the Dark Side?
Plus the Daily Pranks and Fun.... more than 7 years in and after Hogwarts, all taking us to the end of October, where the actual story starts...
Maybe some info with how Sirius and Remus survied the next 12 years till they met again.... We have a general idea... but.... More info never hurts .... ;D

I wholeheartedly agree... I want it all... I say all of us Marauder lovers start a letter writing campaign... inundate her with our yearning... hehehe... she clearly has the Marauder love as well or she wouldn't have chosen this as "her story" of all choices she could make... keep playing with those characters Jo... that's how books begin. Muahahahahahaha

Loves it.You know, I was just thinking last night how this summer is going to be so depressing without our Harry. For the better part of my life I've had the HP books to look forward to and now there aren't any more? It hadn't hit me after reading the 7th, really, but now I'm just aghast. WHAT AM I SUPPOSED TO DO WITHOUT HARRY!!! (There's Breaking Dawn but it's not the SAME!)
PS It's NOT sad that my summers revolve around HP books, okay? Man!....hehe

Wow, that was really weird to read. Her handwriting is horrible, at least for me. There were a lot of words that I couldn't make out. Reading it, again, for me, it didn't feel like "JK Rowling's" work. I mean, it just didn't feel like she didn't write it, like it was someone else's work. I guess I'm just so used to her writing about Harry Potter, I'm not used to her writing different stories and stuff(even though this is a prequel to HP).
I'm trying to say it's a good prequel, because it has to do with Harry Potter somewhat, but honestly, it's really boring. I don't think I'd enjoy it if she ever did a prequel to HP. I hate to say this, but I honestly don't care how James and Lily got together, or about Sirius and James' mishaps in their life before they died...I want Harry Potter, Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger(Weasley now).
