JK Rowling's book The Tales of Beedle the Bard is set to be published
for fans on December 4, 2008.
According to Ms. Rowling's web site the proceeds of the sale will benefit the Children's High Level Group which she co-founded in 2005.
Says Rowling:
There was understandable disappointment among Harry Potter fans when only one copy of The Tales of Beedle the Bard was offered to the public last December. I am therefore delighted to announce that, thanks to the generous support of Bloomsbury, Scholastic and Amazon (who bought the handwritten copy at auction) - and with the blessing of the wonderful people who own the other six original books - The Tales of Beedle the Bard will now be widely available to all Harry Potter fans. Royalties will be donated to the Children's High Level Group, to benefit institutionalised children in desperate need of a voice. The new edition will include the Tales

or deluxe from Amazon, which purchased the book for $4 million at an auction; or from Barnes & Noble.UPDATE: You can now read additional information on what will be in the book thanks to Scholastic, the U.S. publishers of the Harry Potter series.

Wow, I'd love to have that Collector's Edition, but dang, $100! I guess Amazon is trying to get back that $4 million paid at auction with their exclusive version of the book--only have to sell 40,000 copies. The standard edition is only $7.59. I just don't know if I can bring myself to pay $100...we'll see I suppose. I guess I could put it on my Christmas list. I'd be interested to know who is going to buy the Collector's as well as the age of the purchaser. Interesting. Exciting news though and I'll definitely get the standard edition pre-ordered now.

I confess I'm one of those dorks who will probably have to get the collector's edition... I don't know about midnight parties yet (sheesh, there's the Breaking Dawn one tomorrow, for pete's sake), but I for one will be lobbying my manager to have one at our store 'cause I just love any excuse to get out my robes and wand and mix up the butterbeer frappuccinos. ;-)

Already got my copy pre-ordered from amazon. I looked at the standard & the collectors edition but I decided to go for the collectors. Okay, so at $100 it's very expensive but it's Harry Potter...
JK Rowling will be raking in the cash this Christmas that's for sure!!

Funny, I just picked up a message from Amazon in my email right before I came to HPANA letting me know I could pre-order and I was like "Whhhhhaaaaaaaat??????" I feel like I spaced out on something very big, not knowing The Tales of Beedle the Bard were going to be made available to all of us so soon. Anyway, I clicked on through and pre-ordered right away (even though we have to wait til December to get it, of course) I also couldn't believe the standard edition will be so reasonably priced. I'm sure most of us would be willing to pay more, especially considering the money is going to a worthwhile charity. Cool!
