WB's Alan Horn issues statement to fans in response to 'Half-Blood Prince' delay Popular (7330)

Alan Horn, president of Warner Bros., has issued a statement for fans in direct response to criticism of the company's choice to delay the release of Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince until next July.

He says:

Many of you have written to me to express your disappointment in our moving Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince to Summer 2009.

Please be assured that we share your love for Harry Potter and would certainly never do anything to hurt any of the films. Over the past 10 years, we have nurtured and protected each film, and the integrity of the books upon which they are based, to the best of our ability.

The decision to move Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince was not taken lightly, and was never intended to upset our Harry Potter fans. We know you have built this series into what it is, and we thank you for your ongoing enthusiasm and support.

If I may offer a silver lining: there would have been a two-year gap between Half-Blood Prince and the much-anticipated first part of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, which opens in November 2010.

So although we have to wait a little longer for Half-Blood Prince, the wait from that film until Deathly Hallows will be less than 18 months. I am sorry to have disappointed you now, but if you hold on a little longer, I believe it will be worth the wait.

Alan Horn
President, Chief Operating Officer
Warner Bros.

Gah, I can't stand this idiotic silver stupid linig thing that they keep telling us. It's not a freakin silver lining, we would hav had to wait just as long if hbp came in november. The only thing that would make me not hate WB's guts is if this was all a hoax.

Boycott Warner Brothers!!!

"hold on a little longer" It's not a "little longer", its almost a year. This sucks because there is no way for me to see the movie when it's going to come out in July because I'll be in Eastern Europe cut off from the internet and movie theaters. On average it takes 2-3 months for an American (British) movie to be translated and shown in eastern Europe, by that time I'll be back in America and the movie might not still play in the theates so I'll have to wait for the DVD which is another 10 months. This realy sucks. I just realized that for me it's almost a 2 year wait anyway. WB just ruined my next 2 years.

That is actually really disappointing... I wasn't even aware of the postponal until the other day. My sister announced it, and I'm like, no, you're wrong. Until checking HPANA, that is.

Ah codswallop! As soon as I read the headline I got my hopes up. What a letdown. More explanations. If it was any other movie, like Men in Black or Finding Nemo, it wouldn't harldy matter if the movie was delayed. But angering HP fanatics is dangerous! We're serious! I'm so tired of the same stuff from them.

...in accordance with the prophecy.

POA anyone? Micheal Gambon, Dumbledore in contacts, the final battle between the DA and the Deatheaters in OOTP, and many more. But hey lets cut him some slack, I mean it was a tough decision. (sarcasm)

However I give him some kudos for helping us realize that their isn't much of a time gap between DH and HBP though we already knew that.

He better live up to his promise and make it worth it.

I know its annoying that they have moved it, and it is really infuriating. I hate that guy too!

But in the end any movie is financed by people who expect profit in return, film-making is a buisness. It will benefit us aswell, because they will have more money to make the next films even more elaborate.

BUT OF COURSE more money for the film means more money for that money hungry Alan Horn. So he can now buy a couple of extra houses for that island of his in the bahamas.

Lily*R/Hr - He says the seventh movie will come out in November 2010, but I don't trust him...

Sorry but he will probably make more money this way, you are better off going to the cinema and NOT buying the DVD. But all of us fans probably have the whole set of first edition DVDS.

The truth, WB made too much money this year and they are worried that they have nothing for 2009. Batman is to blame. Want to get the HBP back to November, start writing letters, and making phone calls, not to WB, but to the sponsors of their TV shows. Tell the sponsors of WB TV shows like Gossip Girl and Two and a Half Men that you'll be boycotting their products until WB smartens up. Write letters to Ellen, she works for WB. When I say letters, I mean the ones that you put in an envelope, not the ones where you click "Send", bags and bags of mail are harder to ignore.

Well I'm still not happy. There is no silver lining, I knew there would be a long wait for the first part of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. WB made enough money with Batman this year so they have to save their next big money-making blockbuster for next year.

Sorry, I'm not buying that. I don't care how apologetic he may seem the bottom line is the greed and more money.

We knew about the long wait for the last film and accepted it with very little problem, the only upset being that it was going to be two films. More money again- kaching!

There is nothing anyone at WB can say that will butter over what they did. Just because they say they are sorry will not make me go see the movie when it comes out in July.

Even if everyone waits one week before going to the theater, the point will be made that we can not be bought and manipulated.

Stand firm Harry Potter fans and don't let them pull the wool over your eyes.
It seems that we will definately have to wait to see it so let them wait to get their profits. They will still make the money but it won't come from a blockbuster weekend.

I will not forget to boycott the film when it comes out and I hope no one else does either!

Blessings! Hecate3fold!

Honestly, I wanted this movie to come out in november.
I'm not stupid and i know it wont happen, but i was really looking forward to seeing it at the first set date.

I also liked how the movies were being planned out before this big fiasco. I mean, if hp6 was still coming out in november, hp7 would be a long wait...but that would have been even better just knowing that the final book is another year away. i think it would build up the suspense for the seventh film....(in a good way.) Unlike this...

this is ridiculous.

What a load of Rubbish, they think release some phoney sorry we hav upset you but OH guess what, you won't have to wait as long to see DH, WRONG. What an IDIOT that Alan Horn is. We STILL have to wait the same amount of time to see DH, nothing changes that fact, the ONLY thing that changes is not only do we have a long wait for DH, but NOW we have a longer wait for HBP. His sorry attempt at an apology and an offering of a silver lining is just pathetic. Keep your phoney apology, we don't want to hear it. Boycott, show them that they are NOT going to get the huge opening weekend profits they think they so richly deserve. IF they get away with this, whats to stop them from doing the same thing to DH???

What an absolute git.

Not only does he think lessening the wait between HBP and DH is enough to substitute our misery, he has taken a crucial H/G moment and MULTILATED IT!

The silver lining is when Harry does not have time to date whilst hunting for horcuxes, not when WB has manipulated the fans for a money scheme!
