Ralph Fiennes gives new interview; out-takes from 'EW' photo shoot Popular (7731)

In a new interview with Entertainment Weekly, Ralph Fiennes (Voldemort in the Harry Potter films) discussesopens in new window his wish to return for the last movie and how he prepares to play a baddie.

That’s actually the hardest to do because you have to personify evil, and there’s such a history of clichés and villains and monsters. You’ve got to struggle not to play all the obvious notes. And with such extreme makeup, such an extreme look - that’s the challenge. Also, the style of the movies is so strong. The movie itself is its own machine, and you’ve got to fulfill a function of a bigger machine. It would be good to keep the sense of some kind of real psychology going on, even in all the special effects and everything. I’m not officially contracted to the last ones, but I think that’s in the cards. I want to do it. It’s just that they haven’t got a script yet, so the deal side of it isn't in place. But the indications are that it'll happen.

On a related note you can now viewopens in new window some out-takes from the Half-Blood Prince Entertainment Weekly photo shoot.

He is the perfect Voldemort. I cannot see anyone else doing this anywhere near as well. I am sure he will be brought back. Warner Brothers is not that foolish.

I love the Harry/Draco ones, a pity they didn't get in.

I have no worries about Fiennes being in the final film(s). I love his portrayal of Voldie ^_^

Cool EW scans! But Harry's hair looks a little dorky, I think. But I do like the Harry/Draco stand-off pictures. And I always love to hear Ralph Fiennes discuss the scariness that is that creepy wizard who must not be named!

GodricsGirl says:

He is one of the world's best actors and can personify evil with a glance. Even when he plays a hero, his silky smooth, almost too good to be true voice sends shivers up my spine. Anyone who doubts this just needs to watch him in his first major role ~ "Shindler's List." The scariest thing about that one is that he was playing an actual historical person.
I knew the moment it was announced that he would play Voldemort that the series would neven be the same. Now when I read the books, it is his voice I hear when Voldemort speaks.

I agree, Hecate3fold, I liked Harry et al so much better with longer hair! Plus his hair is meant to be scruffy, just like James'.

The boys look kind of nerdy in those pics, which we know they are not at all! Ahh, damn the styling.

Yes, I agree with all, Fiennes is amazingly perfect as Voldemort. I love it when they get the casting right, which they have been pretty good at so far - forgetting Mrs. Figg =|
We'll have to see how good the casting was for HBP when it comes out, namely Broadbent and Cave.

Hehe, lovely picture of Harry nad Draco up there =)

I really liked what Fiennes said about playing the Dark Lord. I guess people don't really realise how much psychological (spelling) streingth i takes to play anyone (serious) at all let alone the most evil wizard of all time.

I expect the seventh film (and the eight one) to be even darker then the fifth and sixth (although I have no idea just how dark the sixth one is due to obvious reasons, haven't seen it yet).
I'm just scared that Dan might make a joke out of the final battle scene. I mean, no offence but I think we all still remember that part in PoA when Dan screams "He was their friend!" it was supposed to be dramatic or something and it turned into a joke.
Oh well I'll just have to trust him, he has evolved since than and his acting improved.

Ralph FIennes rocks my world. He's just such a great actor; I love the other stuff he's been in, and casting him as Voldemort works well. He's good at the role and he adds another layer of credibility to the cast.

I can't imagine him not being in the last movies. But I can't imagine that being an issue either. All of those involved seem to want to keep the actors in their original roles through the series.

It certainly must be hard to be so evil. I can't imagine even acting so horrible mean and evil. Fiennes has done such other wonderfully kind, caring, loving...characters and then he is Voltemort. Such a transition and truly amazing acting.

Well he does a good job of playing Voldemort much better than Gambdon's version of Dumbledore who is suppose to be very good in the first six books and therefore movies because they are from Harry's perspective.

Well i for one think he was absolutely brilliant as Voldemort in the 4th & 5th movie, so really, he should be back for the last two. i think the focus has always been on Harry as the main character, but Voldemort's been a bit overlooked as a main character himself before. But he is a pivotal role, and therefore deserves an actor that will portray him beautifully.
