In a new interview
with Harry Potter producer David Heyman, Mr. Heyman discusses the reason for the delay in the release of Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, as well as the decision to split the release of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.
Mr. Heyman on the delayed release of the Half-Blood Prince movie:
No need to [do more work]. If we had to come out now, we'd be fine. Warners asked it because of the writers' strike, because of various reasons. They have a shortage of product for next summer, and they asked if it's OK [to delay the release].
Mr. Heyman on the decision to split the release of Deathly Hallows:
It's not about breaking them into two. It's just the schedule is such that I guess it's long. There's more, so there's a lot of downtime without him. It's going well. It's great. I'm very, very lucky to be involved with it.
Ultimately there was always going to be two-year gap either between V and VI or between VI and VII: Part One. Now there's a two-year gap between V and VI, and there'll be 18 months between VI and VII: Part One.
Mr. Heyman is currently in Beverly Hills, Calif., where he was promoting the comedy Yes Man, where he also mentioned that he will be doing a film with Alfonso Cuarón.

The project he and Cuaron are working on together is called "The History of Love", set for a 2010 release. It's based on a novel by the same name by the American author Nicole Krauss. The film is produced by Heyday & WB. Emma Watson is rumored to be in consideration for the lead female role. This project was jump-started after Cuaron and Heyman came to the conclusion (I dunno the details) that he would not be directing Deathly Hallows. Again, there were rumors that Cuaron was completely opposed to the idea of a two-part film, even though he really wanted to come back for DH. Heyman then went straight to Yates for it, as in the past, multiple directors were approached for OotP & HBP, all of whom passed on those films. Yates was initially open to having someone else direct DH, as he was tired after doing two films. It was heard here and there that WB will compensate him very well for taking on DH and that the delayed, continuous shoot for DH will allow everyone a breather (as Heyman said)

Demantors Shadow - Your right, it is a business but that ultimately means it is about making more money.
But my biggest annoyance about all this is the way WB treated the fans, the people they depend on to make money. No-one likes to feel like a commodity, or a resource you can just move about whenever the feeling takes you.
And wasn't it companies like WB who triggered the writers strike in the first place?

Well.....I'm just fed up with all the excuses and stuff.I just want to see the film already.I'm definitely gonna expect that its going to be great.Also I kinda thought that the other reason is because of Twilight,that its going to be a clash of the titans.That Twilight is gonna give HP a run for its money,I'm not being bias or anything,I'm also a huge fan of Twilight as well,however HP has already made itself into a huge thing that cannot easily be tarnish.HP will always be HP.Also both films has its flair in their respective ways.

I wish alfreso cuaran had come back for the 7th films, I liked POA the best out of all the films. I still think DH should be one long film, its going to be completely weird for the film to stop in the middle of the story.

'Shortage of product for next summer' is not a valid reason to delay a film. This is total disregard for the work, indeed, a sheer lack if critical thought. Heyman and Warner are merely trying to find a convenient excuse for blatant mercantilism. One could expect a more sensible approach from people pretendedly involved in culture.

However, how they handled everything, and the fact that the big movie companies were the main reason for the writer's strike does not make me any happier with WB. They still stink!

It's good that Mr. Heyman took the time to explain why there would be a late release for Deathly Hallows because making movies for us to enjoy is a business and they need to make a profit. I'm willing to wait until next summer because it might be the best release for next summer.

This is all good, But, the real reason that was told is that WB wanted to allow the Dark Knight to make revenue without hurting the HBP movie. So, they scheduled it to July 09, and hope that by the time they finish the two other parts of the Deathly Hallows. The Hogwarts Castle is finished in Florida, and the Harry Potter magic will continue to be even more greater at Universal Studios.

As for splitting DH--well, if they do that, they had better give me MORE detail and a better film.
All in all, I think HP fans are pretty lucky. I am also a Star Wars fan...talk about a wait!
