Hollywood.com has posted
an early review of Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince after attending an advance screening of the film. Writer Paul Dergarabedian gave the film a rave review, stating:
Well, stand back because now the Potter-loving beast in me has been unleashed after having witnessed a film that was not only exquisite in its production values, but was also charming, funny, scary, enchanting, moving (stop me, the adjectives could go on and on) and dare I say, sexy. Brilliantly directed by David Yates (he directed 2007’s Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix), Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince is a tour-de-force that combines style and substance, special effects and heart and most importantly great performances from all of the actors young and not-so-young.
He goes on...
Daniel Radcliffe, Harry Potter himself, has evolved into a really fine young actor who gives the film its emotional core. However, if Radcliffe is the heart, Michael Gambon is the film’s soul as Albus Dumbledore; Gambon gives a powerfully subtle performance as the de-facto father figure to young Mr. Potter. Of course, the always great Alan Rickman gives another menacingly creepy and memorable turn as the evil and duplicitous Severus Snape. The cinematography, music, set design and costumes are all amazing, and the film has a truly rich look to it reminiscent of the best of the old-school Hollywood epics.

Oscar?!? Really? Woah. This is so good. Good, good, good. This is I believe the first time we've had such positive praise for the movies. Usually, there's a "good for kids" aspect, but for once, it appears that this movie is going to create a new rep for Potter films. From what I've heard in this report, it sounds like they've truly captured that which keeps me obsessed with reading HP books over and over. Thank God they've found a way to captivate new fans! ... But WB still isn't off the hook for the wait.

Wow, I am thoroughly gobsmacked! Usually the reviewers LOVE to heap scorn on the "franchise" as souless and just simply a movie that has guaranteed fans, but this review actually recognises the work and talent that goes into the movie.
YAY! Now a little bit more excited for 15th of July!

"Michael Gambon is the film’s soul as Albus Dumbledore" - I have to vomit because of this sentence, sorry... gamby as the soul of this... he is the one who killed Dumbledore before Rowling...
"Of course, the always great Alan Rickman gives another menacingly creepy and memorable turn as the evil and duplicitous Severus Snape" - well of this, I'm sure :D
Anyway, a great review, and I have really high expectations :D

Wow, I can't believe this review. Now I really can't wait to see this movie! I love David Yates. I think he directed the 5th movie beautifully. It was absolutely the best HP movie of the franchise.
I just hope fans don't boycott the movie because they pushed the date back. I mean, HP needs support (now that Pattinson and Twilight are around). Oscar worthy, this is going to be an amazing film!

Wow!! That is an amazing review. I never really considered the franchise Oscar material, though I have always admired the creativity and honesty of everyone involved, it was just something that never crossed my mind.

Loved what David Yates did with OOtP[was the best so far,
David made it more like a film and less like a play set to film] and apparently he has topped himself with this one.
The Acadamy Awards have stretched thier best picture
from 5 to 10[like it once was] dare I hope this one be considered a contender???Even if not ,the fact it is spoken of in the same sentence gives me hope for this film.
Sounds like it well can, from ALL the discription of the film itself to the acting involved in it.Am looking forward to the performances in this film --especially Dan's more than any other .
Am SO looking forward to this film!!!.........19 days is a long wait now .
If this film weren't as good as it soounds WB more than likely wouldn't have bothered to save it for this summer[they already had their BIG FILM for 2008 ,with The Dark Knight Batman] because of the writers strike they had to have something THIS year.I was upset at the time because I needed to SEE a HP film but I think now it WAS THE right decidion .[[It wil be a year and a half till the next one.]]Sounds to me like it, HBP ,will be well worth the wait!!

From what I just read Gambon must have finally gotten his priorties straight and has decided to start taking his acting in the Potter films seriously. I certainly hope so. He was aweful in PoA and GoF.
And kudos to Rickman for his contining superbly devilish performance.
I hope credit goes where it's due and the film gets nominated and scores several oscars.

Really, I think OotP was better than the rest (Kill me if you please) and David Yates did superb job, after watching the ten minute french feature thing I cannot wait any longer! Bonnie looks like the Ginny I imagined (again, it was like three minutes long, the Ginny scene) and even Dan's acting has improved! Maybe it is Oscar Worthy, we'll just have to wait and see (sadly).
DFTBA (Don't forget to be awesome)
