After numerous rumors on the subject, Bill Nighy has confirmed that he has accepted the role of Minister of Magic, Rufus Scrimgeour in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.
The 59-year-old, who once joked he was the "only British actor who hasn't been in Harry Potter", told reporters of his new role at a book festival launch.
"I am in the next Harry Potter," he told reporters.
"I will be Rufus Scrimgeour, who is the Minister of Magic and he is a very very important man."

I honestly don't see the point of having him in DH. Scrimgeour is featured only in the first chapters, his role was much bigger in HBp and set the tone to what he tells Harry Ron and Hermione about the will of Dumbledore and he being doubtful about them.
If WB didn't want to let him down, he should have been casted in HBP.
Anyways, let's hope he does a good work

Come on, Rufus Scrimgeour was supposed to be in HBP... All the same, I'm so glad Bill Nighy has been cast, he's bloody brilliant :)

How rude he was supposed to be in HBP not just DH.
Honestly, if they're taking the time to put DH in two parts then they can at least cast Fleur, the rest of the Weasley's and Scrimgeour in HBP!
What's the point of having a new character in DH when they were supposed to be in HBP, it's so pointless, it just confuses people who don't read the books(let alone the fans themselves)and makes stupid assumptions that Warner Brothers can't be bothered to correct.

Well he can definitely say he's in a Harry Potter film now! I'm not sure who he is as an actor, I'll have to look it up. Hopefully he will portray the character well.

This is perfect casting—when I first read the novel, I read all of Scrimgeour's lines in a voice very similar to Nighy's voice, except a tiny bit gruffer than he sounds in State of Play or Love Actually.

I must admit that I had never heard of him before this so I checked him out on IMDB. He's had a long career in films.
I'm sure he will do the part justice, after all, as he said, "he is a very very important man".
Blessings! Hecate3fold!

Ha ha ha. I think he's a pretty good choice for the role. I think he'll be able to pull Rufus off well. Going to have to wait and see how they fit the character into the final movie.

Hahaha, awesome! Bill Nighy just simply has to be a part of every major movie franchise right? Obviously, the guy's just awesome. I did, however, expect Scrimgeour to be a little more... I dunno... lanky when I was reading DH though. But he'll be great - he's spectacular at acting like a cold-hearted man, isn't he? =P

I can see that, once he gets in costume, he will look very much like the lion-ish Scrimgeour, fabulous actor. I wish they could have got Bob Hoskins for something.
