In the latest edition of Total Film magazine
an article on Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows was run, and includes a set preview along with interviews with cast and crew.
Yates called Part I a road film, saying it was dynamic, adrenalised, and visceral. He continued, “It’s a refugee story about three kids cut off from everything they know and everybody they love, being pursued relentlessly by people who want to murder them.”
He then pondered about the split and how one should go about splitting one story to make it two distinct stories. “Do you break it with a moment of suspense or one of resolution?” he asked aloud.
He also called Part II, “A big opera, a great big epic, with huge battles.” Emma said she felt she was on a different film as this film doesn’t have the structure that the previous films had. She explained, “The others have this structure. You know, we come into the Great Hall and there’s the opening talk. And that’s gone.”
Screenwriter Steven Kloves gave a bit of a hint about the split, saying it was the most sound creative decision on where the split occurs. He also stated that the split will give a proper send-off to certain characters, “It should allow us to stretch a bit with the characters and give them the proper send-off.”

I wish they could stop calling it a "road movie"... Let's hope Yates does justice to the "opera"...

So it's split at Shell Cottage, isn't it? And it ends with D's death, doesn't it?

TheOtherMinister -
But the first book was a road movie!
Aberforth12358 -
It splits before malfoy manor, right when they get caught.

Excellent! I really hope and pray that the films do the story and the characters justice...
I hope they give Ron some more interesting/intelligent dialogues with Harry, because in the last 4 movies he was just comic relief and was made to seem really stupid...
And of course I hope that they give lots of time to the King's Cross scene - they HAVE to do that right!

Ok, yes, it was a road movie, but they keep telling us that, just like they kept saying HBP was a "romantic comedy", and they ended up just focusing on the romance for more than half of the movie. What I mean is, I don't want them to waste time on the "road" side of the story, more than they really need to... I don't know if I make myself clear (probably not).

Jeremy, I suppose he meant Dobby's death...
I would split it before Malfoy Manor so that both parts actually start with the same location, that is, if we get to see the events described in Chapter One of the book.

That really doesn't tell me too much. All it does is make me want to see the finished movie, and then when I stop and think that I won't see all of it, and have to wait another half year for the end, makes me even more frustrated.
Somehow I don't have the patience that I had for HBP.
I want it, and I want it NOW!
Blessings! Hecate3fold!

Either way I'm really looking forward to it. I think it's going to be amazing no matter what. It's definitely going to be a change from the other movies but that's what happened in the book and I think that's what will keep it fresh as well as exciting.

*Sighs quietly* I just know I am going to hate this film. For me, David Yates is NOT Harry Potter, he should never have taken on the last three books. I feel ... greatly saddened by the thought that if only someone else had directed them, they could have been brilliant. The first four HP films were ... amazing. I watch them again and again, each time marvelling at the magic of it and the thrills I get when Harry catches the Snitch, or when he rides Buckbeak, or when he grabs the golden egg.
Then I remember, and think .. if only someone else had directed OOTP and HBP, I could be watching them as well. But I just don't enjoy them. I find them ... tedious. How could anything HP related be boring? I wonders - but then I realise. It's his fault. David Yates' fault.

I heard it was going to be split right after Ron returns or when they reach Malfoy Manor. I really hope they put the first chapter in there becuase it's important and after all the anticipation I'm getting over these films, they better be amazing because this is, in essense, the end of waiting for Harry Potter stuff to come out and I want it to end with a bang, not full of "it could have been better if..."s.

All I hope is that David Yates does the final film (in both it's parts) justice. WB is splitting it into two films so I hope everything from the book will be there. I was very disappointed with HBP. Please don't disappoint me with DH. I love Harry Potter. I want it to be great. I guess we wait and see.

I hope David Yates doesn't mess them up like he did in OotP.. That movie was just horrible.. I hear they're going to split the movie when the trio get caught by the Snatchers. Please oh please let it be as awesome as the book!

I can't wait for this movie but I'm going to be really really upset when watching it. I hope iy ends on resolution because if it's on suspense then I'll have my mouth open for eight months despite knowing what's going to happen.
