Last week rumors started to circle the news rounds that "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows" would be released in 3D, we can now confirm these reports to be true.
After the initial report
last week, Hollywood Reporter updated the rumor yesterday stating that it was indeed true, and today Warner Brothers directly confirmed it to the fan sites, saying that Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part I would receive a 3D treatment, as well as being released in standard 2D versions.
Said Warner Brothers:
In making the announcement, Dan Fellman, President, Domestic Distribution, Warner Bros. Pictures, said, “We are experienced and have been successful in the conversion of 2D to 3D going back to such hits as ‘The Polar Express,’ select scenes in ‘Superman Returns’ and the last two Harry Potter films.”
Fellman continued, “We are confident in the constantly evolving 3D technology, and the results for ‘Clash of the Titans’ will be presented onscreen with the highest-quality images available today. Based on our track record, we know that audiences are embracing the RealD and IMAX experiences, and we see many opportunities on our film slate to provide moviegoers with these great options at the multiplex.”
There is no word as of yet on the fate of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part II, but if part I is a success, we can be sure to see Part II getting a go ahead on 3D as well.
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part I & II will be released on November 19, 2010 & July 15, 2011, respectively.

So if Part I fails we won't see Part II in 3D? This is something to worry about! Everyone better go so we can see them both in 3D.

Nice to see the trend continue. This will be nice for the ultimate home editions, since some 3D televisions are starting to come out. Wonder if any of the originals were filmed in a way that would allow 3D?

Wow, I'm not sure I would enjoy seeing DH in 3D. I had some issues watching Avatar in 3D since I wear glasses and had to wear the 3D glasses over my glasses (very annoying even though the 3D glasses were big enough to cover my glasses-it was uncomfortable!!!). Plus maybe it's my bad eyesight or something but parts of Avatar looked blurry and disorientating to me, so I will be seeing DH part 1 in 2D:)

I was skeptical about this when I first heard that it was coming out in 3D but if what I just read is correct it will also be done in the regular fashion and distributed that way too. It doesn't make any difference to me as long as I can get the movie to add to my collection when it is released to the public.
What is the next step, being able to get a movie in holographic projection? That would be something, everyone gathering around to watch a movie projected into the center on the room, as if they were at an actual theater in the round. Could be possible, I'm sure there are people working on that very thing right now.
Blessings! Hecate3fold!

Sorry but I'm not happy about this. I don't like watching movies in 3D because it hurts my eyes. Yes, I did like the ministry battle from OotP in 3D, but I don't want to see the whole thing in 3D. Why can't they just leave it alone?

Great news. That's going to look awesome.
Feelin' Felix Felicis: Today's 3D films can be watched in 2D very easily. I think it's likely they'll released both versions.

I don't know what to think about this, I mean DH would be great in 3D, but at the same time, I dont see very clearly in 3D glasses. Bah! I'm sure it's going to be awesome whether in 2D or 3D

Brilliant...But, 3D I say, it should be shown the same way as the rest of the other HP Movies. To wear 3D glass is not really necessary. The amazing wizardary is great enough, then to see things flying at you.

I had those exact same issues with Avatar. I also wear glasses and never had the blurriness w/ animated 3D movies but off and on, I noticed it with Avatar. (I saw avatar in RealD, not imax 3d). I think I'd still see HP:DH1 in 3D though. Overall, it's a great experience.

Part 2 would have to be in 3D as well then. It would feel odd to have one half of DH shot in 3D and the other in 2D only. Fellman need not be so sceptical: so far the HP franchise has been an ongoing box office success, why should DH turn out to be a flop?

Well I am sure that I will see both versions but I will have to make the decision as to which to see first. I'd hate to see the 3D version only to have it be awful but I also wouldn't want to miss out on it being spectacular.
