Daniel Radcliffe has confirmed
he will star in the upcoming cult thriller The Woman in Black.
The film is set to begin shooting in October, with Eden Lake director James Watkins helming a script from Jane Goldman (Kick-Ass).
He will play Arthur Kipps, a young lawyer who travels to an isolated house in a remote part of Britain to deal with the documents of a client who has recently died.
The house soon reveals its tragic secrets and the lawyer learns that the local village is held hostage by the ghost of a scorned woman set on vengeance.
[Radcliffe is] "incredibly excited" by his new role.
"Jane Goldman's script is beautifully written -- both tender and terrifying in equal measure," he said.
"It is thrilling to be working with James Watkins.
"From his brilliant work on Eden Lake and also having met him and heard his vision for the film, I know he will make a fantastic film."
This news comes along with Radcliffe's confirmed involvement in the upcoming Broadway play How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying, and Hollywood remake of All Quiet on the Western Front.
We will keep you updated with further information regarding this (and other) roles for Mr. Radcliffe.

Should be interesting to see how he does in the new role. It will be probably one of his first truly adult roles (rather than boy) and certainly the first since the end of filming for the HP films. Does not look like he is taking a large amount of time off.

Not really interesting in seeing this, but I would like to see the original, which is proving impossible. I didn't think Netflix would have it, and they don't, and Amazon has used copies of the DVD for $70.

The TV movie version of course, not the play. I found it uploaded somewhere though.

Daniel has been excellent in everything in which I've seen him, including Equus. I've got complete faith that this project will be of same quality, not just some CGI hack-fest. For a young guy with a lot of fame and a lot of people trying to influence and/or get a piece of him, he's been very smart about his choices--refreshing and commendable. Best of luck and happy birthday!

Do they possibly mean "occult thriller" as opposed to "cult thriller"? It's hard to believe this film could have underground devoted fans seeing as how it hasn't been made yet.

Sounds like a good, creepy movie. There's no doubt in my mind that Dan will be brilliant in his new role. I'm not sure I will go see it, I don't like scary movies.
