Under a veil of mystery, small optical supply firm Graham Coates Ltd.
in the UK has shipped an undisclosed order worth a "significant" sum
to the makers of Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire.
Comparing it to giving away the secrets of a magic trick, the company's owner can't say what exactly they provided, but allowed that it's a spin-off of what they normally do:
The company, set up 20 years ago, is expert in building eye-testing equipment for opticians and anti-reflective coatings and tints.
"It's a great honour for a small company, here in Winchcombe, to be able to say we had a hand in it and supply the likes of Warner Brothers."
Ten years ago, the firm created true-colour holographs and sold the technology to US computer giant IBM.
The company previously supplied products for the makers of Wallace and Gromit
.

Okay I get it, but the thing I don't understand was included in the article, because it was a off the topic notation states "JK Rowling was born and grew up around the Forest of Dean, and the hugely successful novels have made her richer than the Queen." I guess that bit was for the reader who was reading this who has lived on a diserted island since 1997... okay.

I really don't understand, is this article just about how the 4th film ordered huge amounts of something from this company that will be a surprise? Or is it something else?

If there is an opitcal firm working on GoF. WB must have its eyes set on something big! There will be sequences with dragons and merpeople - maybe this firm is to be handling the way the camera fiolms the shots? Lense types, ambiance and all? With them specialising in anit-reflective lense coatings, maybe they will be providing something to make the darker lit scenes more vivid? Who knows. It is just speculation on my part... I sure hope that what ever they end up doing is fantastic to see on screen!

digicasey says:
I believe one item they are working on is Mad Eye Moody's eye. WB is going for something different, something no one has seen before. From what I've heard, they have spent a lot of time working on his magical eye.
Another item they could be working on (only a theory) are Voldemort's eyes. I believe they are suppose to look snake like. And then, like mentioned above, you have other creatures like Merpeople, dragons, veelas, etc...

Hmm. Rather baffling. Something with light ... maybe the wand duel between Harry and Voldemort in the graveyard ... you know when the two wands connect and there is something like a cage of light around them keeping the death-eaters out, and the beam between the two wands has beads of light moving along it ... just a thought.
It must be a type of technology that hasn't been used in a movie before - or they wouldn't be making such a big deal about it - or be so concerned about keeping it secret. Maybe I'll send the article to an engineer friend of mine and see if he has any ideas.

I agree with Firebolter & digicasey.
Its got to be Moody's eye.
Got to the company's webpage from the link above. Plus they could help as Firebolter said with You-know-who's eye and, might I add, the eyes of the dragons, and the lighting of the underwater sequences.
Y'all, I just went back through their product list and guess what. It looks as though they sell a device to measure the shape of the eye--for contact lenses I think. When I was working on a film a couple of months ago, we had to make a child look as though he had no eyeballs in his sockets (groos I know). So we had to send him to a specialized opthomalogist to have the shape and size of his eyes mapped so the FX crew could have these weird contact made for him. Kind of a green screen technology thing.
