The Penistone Line Partnership, which was set up to save the Huddersfield-Penistone-Sheffield route, celebrated its 10th anniversary
this past weekend.
Vintage engines pulled up at Platform 1 as crowds joined the party. Organisers said more than 2,000 visitors turned up throughout the day.
"It's a big birthday bash for us," said organiser Brian Barnsley.
But there was disappointment for some when Olton Hall, the train which became the Hogwarts Express in the Harry Potter films, could not make it to Huddersfield after there were problems moving it from a rally in Doncaster.
Instead, a 70-year-old Stanier 8F express freight locomotive - now used to pull summertime Scarborough Spa Expresses - pulled Hogwarts Express carriages.

The replacement train must have been a old steam engine like the Hogwarts express right? If it was that old - I very much doubt it was driven by electricity. That must have been almost as charming as the Hogwarts express. Even if it wasn't brightly coloured.

The Hogwart's Express is in such great demand! Who would've know it make appearances? Not good for those who went to the celebration - but the Hogwart's Express wasn't the only draw for the event - plenty of other classic trains were there as well. Better luck next year! I'd like to book one of the spa trips on the train - sounds like fantastic fun!

Choralee- I agree with you. Though it must have been upsetting to not be able to see the Hogwarts Express, there were many other classic steam engines there which would have been fun and interesting to see also!

Aww... would have loved to see the Hogwarts Express, but where I am, there's no chance!
Anyway, I would really love to take some rickety old train across England, perhaps even Europe! I don't mind if it takes a week or more, since it won't be cramped like a car or coach. Great way to see the countryside.

I would have been disappointed in not seeing the Hogwarts Express, but there seemed to be other things to enjoy. They did bring in the Hogwarts Express carriages. I would like to have brought one of the miniature steam train, make a great Christmas gift for someone. I wonder if they have Hogwarts Express train.

I feel bad for all those people who were let down when they didn't see the Hogwarts Express. I'm going to London the summer before I go to College and I can't wait to take pictures of me between Platforms 9&10 :)

That stinks, I would have wanted to see the Hogwarts Express because it would make the books seem more real to me.

I too am fascinated by trains. It would be so cool to ride the Hogwarts Express! Perhaps the owners of the train will offer Hogwarts train rides through the English countryside. If so, I would be there. Maybe a costume party paired with the train ride, complete with the candy cart?

Well you cant expect the train to be different places just for a celebration because they probably need it for the movie you know.
