Ron Wolfeopens in new window describes the transformation that children's imaginations undertake once they have read the Harry Potter series. No longer satisfied with being a princess or a cowboy, many children today want to be Harry Potter. Everyone knows that a cowboy needs a horse, and a spaceman needs a rocket, all it takes to be a wizard is make-believe.

One fantasy writer, Richard Knaak says he grew up playing astronaut, but he understands why today's kids would rather wave wands:

"I find it no surprise that children, especially in this day and age of special effects, would like to grow up to be wizards, to children, a wizard is the perfect embodiment of themselves, but in adult form."
