Several news sources have recently announced that Warner Bros. has decided to make Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire into a single movie
. The question then, of course, was how long that movie might be.
Hold your breath - included in CBBC Newsround's announcement
today was the following statement:
Sources say Steve Kloves, who adapted the first three books, has been asked to make a single two-and-a-half-hour film.

they better not make it a two and a half hour film!!
Each of the first two were that long, and Goblet of Fire is over 700 pages and those ones aint even 500!and hour of it would probably have to be everything leading up to hogwarts, and then the rest of the time would be needed for the task's and the stuff that happens in the graveyard. Ugh. I have a problem with this..

Well, he's been asked to make that movie that length, but I hope he doesn't listen and actually writes a decent GoF film. I just can't believe that it would be any good to be only 2-1/2 hours long. The first 2 were that long, and were very condensed. I can't believe GoF could be successfully condensed into the same amount of time and get all the important stuff in there when that book is as long as the first 2 combined!

Wow, I really disagree witht that. I can't believe that they would want to do that. It's a 734 page book! If they somehow do make it only 2.5 hours think of how much there will be cut out. There probably won't be The Quidditch Final or the Winky discharge and many other things... Ah! I hope that this is not true.

Nooooo!! This sucks, there's no way anyone can squeeze that book into a 2 1/2 hour movie, and still make it awesome. Whoever thought of making it that short must not be a HP fan. Stupid git.

If they make it only 2 1/2 hours long they're going to have to cut out a lot of stuff! Goblet of Fire is my favorite of the series and they better not mess it up!

There is no way that they will be able to make it into a 2 1/2 hour movie without cutting out so much that it is horrible. If it's 2 1/2 hours then I might not see it. Does anyone know how long the 3rd one is going to be?

They better not make it 2 1/2 hours! I will be so mad! You can not fit a 743 page book in a movie that long! they would miss so many important points!

No way!! Well, they can do it -- just no Quidditch World Cup and maybe cut out the Yule Ball or something and you might just get it to work....
Yeah, right. I still think you need a minimum of 3 hours just to cover the tasks and make the necessary plot connections.

I-Pie says:
Warner Bros. arguement on the previous films was that the
films are primarily for children. Children will not sit through more than a 2 1/2 movie. I think they should make two and release one that covers up to Halloween in Novemeber. The second one should be released in the following year in Jan./Feb. Then the two films would qualify in the U.S. for Academy Awards in two different years. I think they should have won in costume and special effects areas.

It will be the book on fast forward if they shorten it to 2-1/2 hours!...the first 2 where close to that...and they are like a couple hundred pages shorter!...i hope they can give the book it's justice.

ONLY AN HOUR AND A HALF?! that's like how long the CoS is. all there gonna be able to fit in that time frame is the stuff leading up to hogwarts, the tasks and the graveyard! it'll be just the main events, thats no fun.

Maybe they just told him to make a 2 and a half hour script to put some pressure on him to make it short, but I don't think they can do it in under 3 and a half, let alone 2 and a half. But hey, I wouldn't mind sitting through 4 hours of Goblet of Fire, just don't cut the Quidditch Cup! And they CAN'T keep cutting characters. Oh, let's just make the movie as long as the audio tape, die-hard Potter fans really wouldn't mind...lol.

It occurs to me that perhaps the people at WB might be testing the waters to see what kind of response a 2 and 1/2 hour movie might generate.... hmmmm, food for thought.

I don't know how they will do this... I will be terribly dissapointed not seeing enough of the details on the big screen. This is not good at all. I hope someone rethinks this decision. However, I guess we should just be happy with them even deciding to make GoF. I want all seven books put into movies!!! I want book 6 to come out, like, NOW!!!

Well, this should make for a very brief overview of GOF. There won't be any time for character development and only the biggest events will be covered. :o)

I don't believe that GOF will be only 2 1/2 hours long. Imagine what they have to leave out. It will cut down the story to the Triwizard Tournament and the return of Voldemort. But what about all the other great stuff, including the Snape-Karkaroff-Moody parts in the book? Would be nearly a tragedy if they cut it out.
But WB will earn more money if the movie is not too long, so it can be played more often during the day in the cinemas, so I think we really must prepare for the worst-
and I never hoped so much that I will be wrong with my opinion!!!

They can't cut out the Quidditch World Cup! That's a major event, because it is when we're introduced to the Death Eaters and the Dark Mark!!! I sure hope that what Alcestis1 said is right, and that they're just "testing the waters." Oh! There's not much in GoF that they can cut out because as the jacket of GoF says it is the "pivotal fourth novel." That means there's a lot of important stuff in it and it will be bad if they cut it out!!! They better make it like 2 three-hour movies!!!
