This is Bradford has an article on the Parvati/Padma open casting call
currently going on in British schools. Casting director Shaheen Baig, is looking to fill two major roles in the fourth JK Rowling adaptation, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire.
Miss Baig spent last week visiting schools in the area searching for the perfect pair of Asian girls to play the characters Parvati and Padma Patel. The chosen girls will have major scenes opposite the film's main stars Daniel Radcliffe
, Emma Watson
and Rupert Grint
because they will be playing Harry and Ron's dates for the Yule Ball.
Miss Baig said:
"In this book they are actually written as twins but it has been incredibly difficult to find Asian twin girls so we decided to open it up and just find two girls. We're looking for two girls, if they happen to be sisters that would be amazing, but it doesn't really matter. We just want two good girls who have fantastic chemistry."
Shooting for the film begins in April next year and the film will be released in 2005.

Good luck to the ones trying out. Too bad they only accept British people. I would love to try out for a part. Dunno which character, but would be great.
I'm very curious who eventually get chosen. Hope they can find twins.

I always thought the Patil sisters were Indian... and about 100 percent of the fan fics take them to be too. Huh... I never ever even thought of them to be asian. Does it say that they are in any of the books?

Maybe it is poetic liscense that has made the Patil sisters Asian here? I am in the same mind as Dumbeldores Army - I thought they were Indian, too!
I hope they choose the right people for the part. Maybe the call will lead girsl who are Indian to audition?

With names Like Padma and Parvati, I would have expected them to be Indian or Middle Eastern, but never Asian.
I remember the Chamber of Secrets where one of the twins caught Lockhart's cape and those two girls looked Middle Eastern. And, in Azkaban, the boggart turned into a mummy for Parvati, so I would have expected them to at least come from that part of the world.
I guess the producers have their own ideas about the female twins.
Should be interesting, though.

Man I wish I was an asian girl in the UK. ;) I am sure that they will find some great young actresses to play the roles. The opportunity to be a part of the magic of Harry Potter should be enough to attract the best of the talent in UK. I look forward to hearing who ultimately gets to play these two great roles.

Many posting have it right -- some are confused. If you look at an ATLAS you will find many countries INCLUDING Pakistan and India are found under the listing of SOUTHERN ASIA. So the Casting Director could very well be looking for two girls of Indian or Pakistani descent. But I have a question for ChoChang22 - if she should read this. Why is Oriental not a proper term for people. Every dictionary I checked listed it as perfectly correct as "a member of any of the peoples whose native country is in the Orient". Not wanting to offend anyone, I am curious as to why this is not a proper description.
