National Braille Press announce online auction for complete signed set of 'Harry Potter' books  Comments (39)
The National Braille Press has just announced that their online auction featuring a rare complete edition of the "Harry Potter" novels, signed by J.K. Rowling, is now open. The auction, to support the 'Hands On! Books for Blind Children gala,' is open from today through October 25th and will finalize with a gala event on October 26th hosted by "Tonight Show" host, Jay Leno.

Ms. Watson donated a "Harry Potter" Hogwarts Express train set signed by herself, Rupert and Daniel, as well as a tote bag which was issued to the film crew and includes a thank you message from the producers and director, David Yates.

New York elementary school to screen 'Goblet of Fire' early  Comments (213)
A public elementary school in New York will present a special advance screening of "Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire" on November 17 in Manhatten to raise money for a film program in the historic Brooklyn Heights magnet school. Director Gordon Parks, Sr., whose two grandsons attend the school, will be honored with a special reception before the movie.

Alivan's Master Wandmakers reported yesterday that "Harry Potter" fans who purchased a magic wand through their special "Redwood for Red Cross" promotion raised $9,315 for Hurricane Katrina relief efforts. The company donated 100% of the profits generated by sales of their redwood wands from September 2 through September 18.

Fan fiction web site FictionAlley.org has launched a fundraiser to create a scholarship in honor of a teenager who died of leukemia this year. Thirteen-year-old writer Katie O'Brien was passionate about her work, continuing to write even while she was in the hospital fighting for her life. Wristbands will be sold at "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince" release parties around the globe to fund the scholarship. FictionAlley is a registered non-profit corporation with tax-exempt status.

A best-selling poet wise beyond his years, and a rabid Harry Potter fan, Stepanek rose to fame in 2001 with the publication of his first volume of poetry and a stint on the Muscular Dystrophy Association's telethon. He met "Potter" stars Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson and Rupert Grint on the Oprah Winfrey show in 2002.

He'll be sereneded by jazz musician and five-time Grammy winner Al Jarreau at his high school, along with other winners. Snetiker's winning essay, which includes Harry Potter, captures the feeling of reading a great story. Some of his own reasons for reading: an increase in intelligence, imagination and creativity.
