Nicholas Hooper, composer of the last two "Harry Potter" film scores, is leaving the franchise, says a reliable member of JWFan's forums (a John Williams fan site) and contributor for Film Score Monthly. "He told me that the films have put too great a strain on his family life," said the contributor Maestro.

In a lecture to fans recently, John Williams said "with confidence" that he thinks he will be back to score the final "Harry Potter" movie, according to a report. Nicholas Hooper will score David Yates' "Half-Blood Prince,", due out next year. "Deathly Hallows" is expected to be released in 2010.

'Prisoner' leads Saturn awards  Comments (218)
The Academy of Science Fiction, Fantasy & Horror Films announced today that "Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban" leads the nominations in the 31st Annual Saturn Awards. The movie has been nominated in 9 categories including Best Picture (Fantasy), Best Director (Alfonso Cuarón) and Best Writer (Steve Kloves). Daniel Radcliffe received a nomination for Best Performance By A Younger Actor and Gary Oldman as Best Supporting Actor.

Yesterday evening "Harry Potter" composer John Williams received a Kennedy Center Honor for being "one of the most influential American composers of the past four decades." Mr. Williams was given his award by director Steven Spielberg who commented that: "Sometimes I think the reason I make so many movies is just to keep John writing only for my films, pretending I have captured the lightning in my bottle."

John Williams Fan Network has received confirmation from Warner Bros. that John Williams will not be composing the music for "Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire." The new composer signed for the movie will be Patrick Doyle who has previously worked with director Mike Newell on "Donnie Brasko" and "Into the West."

The Hollywood Reporter has a very interesting article discussing the upcoming award season in which they mention that it is not beyond belief that "Harry Potter and Prisoner of Azkaban" could be nominated for an Oscar for its new director as well as for music and writing.
