Potter toy company being bought out?
Shares in branded goods manufacturer Character Group, which handles merchandising for Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings products, soared after it received an informal takeover bid from an unnamed American toy company today. Character Group said that "the approach was on an informal basis and that whilst the initial discussions are ongoing, they are at a very early stage."

CoS Whomping Willow Game Gets Good Marks
The Miami Herald says: Harry Potter Whomping Willow Game (Mattel), $31.99. Ages 5 and up. What it is: A skill game. Players use hooks shaped like the Weasleys' flying car to pick Ron's and Harry's luggage off a spinning plastic willow tree. Problems: The game was hard to put together and the tree sometimes fell apart. Tester comments: "Interesting, challenging." Rating: 10.

Apparently, Hallmark and Wal-Mart recalled 7,000 Harry Potter potion bottle keychains which leaked petroleum distillates, an ingestion hazard for children. Didn't know that. Thanks to Kunal for some of today's news.

It's All About The Harry Potter Toys This Year
Brattleboro Reformer has this: Hallmark and Wal-Mart also recalled 7,000 Harry Potter potion bottle keychains which leaked petroleum distillates, an ingestion hazard for children. CNN reports that the toy company, Hasbro (makers of HP toys) has been fined for price-fixing. and Stockhouse says: The Whomping Willow Game brings "to life" all of the fun of Harry and Ron's thrilling adventures with the spirited Willow tree in "Chamber of Secrets".
