, depicting scenes from the first two Potter books.
For the first time ever, Harry Potter is being honoured on a series of official legal tender coins approved by H.H. Queen Elizabeth II. I want one! Too bad for me. I'm not in England though. I think there needs to be something in America like that....

Very cool, although I think that there are better ideas for HP merchandising that appeal to more adults.

awww. having harry potter coins would rule. i wish they would make them in canada. all the big hp fans (like me) would use them i bet, we'd probably keep them and have a huge collection of them. well actually, canada has made harry potter coins but i dont think you can use them, they are for collecting but looks and feel like a quatar, unless for the picture of course. but that would be so cool getting change back from a store and seeing harry potter pictures looking back at you. i want some real bad!!

Those are sooo cool. I went to the website to see what pictures they, chose, and I wish they weren't so expensive. Maybe they will make some in the U.S. like they are doing the state quarters.

I already knew there were legal tender Harry Potter coins in the Isle of Man (one of my google search finds LOL). I definitely think our US money needs a serious makeover. I was thinking about our coins and decided perhaps on the following suggestions (hope the president is reading this LOL):
penny: Ron Weasley (the whole copper/red head thing going on here) on the front; the Burrow on the reverse.
nickel: Dumbledore (he's not the main character after all, and nickels are used the least, but he's still worth putting on a coin) on the front; Fawkes on the reverse.
dime: Hermione on the front; Hogwarts crest on the back.
quarter: Harry Potter on the front; Hedwig on the back.
Actually, you know the US came out with those new dollar coins a couple years ago, so why not Harry Potter money? I'm all for it :-)

I like your idea, Aravis. Too bad the government has this inclination to do coins with some sort of historical meaning. About the only "current event" U.S. coin I can think of was the 1976 coins that had the figure of the eagle on the moon on the back, and even that was several years after the moon landings. I think we'll have to hope for stamps for the time being.

I personally think that they should get rid of paper money entirely. I think that everything should be in coins. Coins don't rip, are smaller, don't need to be folded to fit places, and they're too small for those bloody stupid little "Where has this dollar been? Go to www.[address].com!" to fit on them!
Great. Now I'm deprived of Harry Potter coins, and I'm mad at dollar bills.
Of course, there would be new coins introduced, naturally.

sorry, I just wrote two looooooooong posts and the computer didn't let me post them...I thought HPANA was enforcing its "no double-posting" rule. Anyway, I wanted to say, Muggle Wizard...I wouldn't mind stamps as long as they had pics from the movie and not the drawings/figurines they have on most of the Harry Potter merchandise. I really don't like those.
I was thinking also, you know how the US has had that thing going on with the quarters? The US mint produces the quarters with certain states on the back for a limited time and then goes on to the next few states. One reason the US government decided to do that was because it makes money when people collect the coins and don't spend them. Well, I bet even more people would collect quarters if they had Harry Potter characters on the back instead of boring ol' states. The government would make a mint (okay, lame joke, sorry...) Of course, as Muggle Wizard said, our government tends to have a "historical significance" standard for our coinage...oh well.

I think they should have hogwarts motto on them too somewhere. They would be kind of neat to have, but I don't think we'll see them in on this side of the pond.

As much as it would be cool to have an American coin with good ol' Harry Potter on it, I doubt it'll happen. What with all of the new State coins, I don't think they would legalize the coin.
