If you own stock in Amazon, this story might interest you. According to Tim Ghriskey, who manages $100 million in assets at Ghriskey Capital Partners, Amazon.com's second quarter was strong
, even though they reported a net loss of $43.3 million.
Amazon.com Inc., the world's No. 1 Internet retailer, said its second-quarter loss narrowed as the company sold more than 1.4 million copies of the latest Harry Potter book. The online merchant boosted its annual revenue forecast, sending its shares higher.
The net loss shrank to $43.3 million, or 11 cents a share, from $93.6 million, or 25 cents, a year earlier, the Seattle- based company said in a statement. Sales jumped 37 percent to $1.1 billion, more than analysts had expected.
Amazon.com began taking orders for Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix in January, offering the book for 40 percent off the cover price. Free shipping on certain orders of $25 or more and discounts on other books and electronics helped boost sales, the company said.

Heh, I'm the first person to post! Anyway, of course they're going to get money for Harry Potter! Most people are going to order the book online because they don't wanna wait in line in the middle of the night.

People also ordered from Amazon because they promised to deliver the books on the 21st... hehe that was the main reason why I ordered from them!

I ordered from Amazon.... got the special edition. Actually, that was my brother that got it. (he was one of those "HP is for kids people, he's 22. Then he preordered the special edition of book 5, because I got him reading the books. hehehe) And I got a copy at a midnight party as well. AND I have a UK version ordered off of Amazon.co.uk. (yes, I am beyond obsessed. I admit it, and I wouldn't have it any other way.) But it's good that the preorders helped out a bit. :)

Harry Potter, no only encourages reading, but promotes good economic growth! Good for Amazon! I would have ordered it on-line, but I didn't want to wait the extra hours until it was delivered. So, I was one of those who stood in line after midnight to pick up my copy. :o)

Amazon rocks! I had foot surgery two days before OotP came out and the day it came out good ol' Amazon delivered my book at noon. (and I finished it the next day..) Leslie, I have all the books (except OotP but I'll get it) in the US editions (duh) and the UK version...both the adult AND children's UK versions. But then, I'm obsessive (Really? We hadn't noticed...NOT!). Back to the Amazon topic, I'd like to plug their one-click shopping...just one click and it's on its way to your doorstep (and your credit card charged...it is so easy it's positively dangerous...) I'd also like to say that Amazon did one heck of a job delivering over 700,000 books to mad and rabid Harry Potter fans all over the country, and as far as I know not one of them was late. Go Amazon!

Should go up in sells, look how long we waited for book 5. Word of mouth on how good the books were, so more people probably read 1-4 waiting and found out they were as good as everyone said they were, so more customers waiting for the book

ChoChang22 -- adult and children's versions are the same book, just a different cover.
As far as Amazon -- well, they're certainly a popular business, and definitely easy to buy from... Here's hoping they get out of the .com curse and start making some money so they're around for years to come (to keep selling HP books!).

I've never bought anything from Amazon, though I came pretty close to ordering OotP from them. It's good to hear that Harry Potter helped to boost their sales, and bring their net worth back up again!

I ordered my copy from Amazon...I saved the special Harry Potter box it came in too, lol. I have to admit though it was a bit nerve wracking that day waiting for it to arrive. I had ordered it think it would not have been cheaper anywhere around where I like...turns out the Fred Meyer's across the street where I live had the same price...and I could have gotten it at 7 am. As is it came around 4 pm that day, lol....but was read by Monday morning when I handed it over to my sister. I bought myself a second copy later at Cosco.

Eh, most people DID order Order of the Phoenix online, because they sold over one million copies ALONE online, which is cool.
