If you had a chance this summer to either go to Barbados on a family vacation or to work as a gofer in the film production for Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, which would you choose? The British Prime Minister's son, Euan Blair, had no trouble in deciding his summer plans
:
The Prime Minister's son is a lowly gofer on the set of the eagerly-awaited blockbuster.
But the 19-year-old, who has just finished the first year of his ancient history degree, is on one of the most prestigious film sets in the world. He is spending the summer in Virginia Water, Surrey, working on the third movie to chronicle the adventures of JK Rowling's boy wizard.
"He's quiet, but very keen," said a set insider. "He watches everything that goes on and is keen to know about how the whole process works. Most people don't know who his dad is."

Thats funny. He has to wait on the cast even though he is practically royalty. I find that funny, but maybe its because I am American

That lucky person. But now, Cuaron better think twice before insulting Mr. Blair as he did a few weeks back.
wahnaroo22, I'm American as well, but I just wanted to say: Blair is no more royalty that Bush is. They're both powerful, politically, but neither are royalty. And don't anyone crack a King George the Second joke; I've had enough of politics on some of the other articles in HPANA... :-D

[b]Sirius-Ella{/b}, actually the term gofer is used a lot in the States (I'm American). It means someone they use to "go-fer" coffee, "go-fer a newspaper" (go for, get it?) It's usually someone low on the totem pole who gains lots of knowledge by being willing to fetch things in order to be around wherever the action is. I hope this makes sense.

Lucky dog! I wish I was a President's daughter or something like that because I would have a better chance of getting an awesome job. He probably has so much fun on the set. I would have no problem choosing between big vacation and Harry Potter. I would of course pick Harry Potter because meeting Dan would be a once in a lifetime chance!

Wow! Lucky dog! I would have made the exact same choice! Grr some people get all the priveleges, but if I'm gooing to be on the set of a movie I wouldn't want to be behind the scenes, I'd want to be an actress in it.

Wow, and the best job my dad ever got me was as a nanny to his boss' two children for a summer. I have to say, this young man has his priorities in order. Why go to some fantastic vacation spot when you can see the magic of Harry Potter come to life.
(although for those of you who have never been on a movie set before, it is often dead boring. Gofer duties aside, I would still love to be there.)
:o)

A wise choice made by Euan Blair! It's much more fun to do anything on a movie set like PoA than to work a menial summer job. Taking lunch orders, phone messages - gofer muct be synonymous with secretary!

A Gofer is slang for someone who is there just to fetch and carry basically, as the article states he has to get crew lunch orders etc.

WeeMinx, I agree with you :/ Other people I have known to get that particular *job* on sets here in Aust. have been similar, children of influential/monied types. Its a lowly kind of job but its still quite a big deal and wouldn't it be cool? I had to work as a nanny at that age yeuch!, no wonder I've still got no children LOL
