Several news sources have recently announced that Warner Bros. has decided to make Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire into a single movie
. The question then, of course, was how long that movie might be.
Hold your breath - included in CBBC Newsround's announcement
today was the following statement:
Sources say Steve Kloves, who adapted the first three books, has been asked to make a single two-and-a-half-hour film.

C. H. Snorkack: I don't know what the email address is, but I think you have a good idea. Does anybody know the email for the people in charge of the script writing and stuff at WB? I hope if enough people write they'll make the movie longer. Hopefully two LONG movies!

Good grief! How can they do it ... well maybe if they cut the World Cup, the Yule Ball and probably two of the tasks from the Tournament ... then the rest of it will be hastily trying to cover basic plot elements .... Jeez!!

Ok sure they can make it two and a half hours, the first half of it that is!! I can't believe that they'll be able to make everything that's relevent fit into that time space. Especially since the first two were that long, and they left out tons.

I don't think that'll be too cool. They're going to have to cut out huge chunks of it. Where will the plot be?? Oh, well, as I've said before, it's not my decision, so I just have to go with the flow.

Maybe they will cut out most of Voldemort's return- to make the movie "PG"! No! And the opening Riddle scene is also probably too "intense" for a kids movie! LORD OF THE RINGS: RETURN OF THE KING will probably be 3 1/2 hours at least-- why cant GoF be just as long?

I think that's really stupid. They are going to have to take out a bunch of scenes that are important if they do that. For one thing most of the events that happen in the fourth book lead up to conclusions in the fifth book.

It would be very difficult because4, in my opiniion teh goblet is the book with more scenes (which make it longer).
Even if the Order of the phoenix book is longer it would take less time to make in a movie.

Okay - Number One: How will Steve Kloves make that book into one 2 1/2 hour film? Impossible to do and still retain the essence of the book. Number Two: Anyone who thinks the HP films will be recast because the young stars are aging needs to get their brain checked! Like, they age in the book, too! What really id the difference between one year in age? The actress who played Moaning Myrtle was in her 30s! The people at Warner Brothers need to rethink their strategies before going any further. Loosing the main cast will ultimately mean loosing many old and true viewers.

I'll bet that they ASKED him that, yes, but I don't think it's realistic, considering the first ones were closer to 3 hours long. I think that they are asking him to do this in the sense of haggling. You start out low, then meet somewhere in the middle- that's what is probably going to happen. 2.5 hours is WAY too short to include all the necessary events.

I'm really glad that they're going to be making 4th book into one movie (can't imagine having to wait for the second half of the movie) but 2.5 hours seems so short! How can they go from considering it to become two movies to measley two and half hours! Do they not know that Harry Potter fans (and the those who are dragged to the movies by a Harry Potter fan hehe) will be more than happy to endure a whole lot longer than 2.5 hours for the movie?

OK GUYS! Who's with me?! We are going DOWN to Warner Bros, and we are gonna protest until they give us our 5 hour movie! They will have to DRAG me away. I'm SORRY, but as these books go on, they get less and less for kids, and WE grow up as well. I think a 13 or 14 year old would be able to sit through that long.
Maybe this isn't true. I certainly hope it's just a rumour, or that Rowling or Kloves will protest profusely. That is SUCH a disapointment for us fans. It's not fair! Grr. I am SO mad now...*calming self* Anyway. I was just watching Jackie Chan's "The Tuxedo," and on the DVD, they tell about Jason Isaacs(Malfoy's dad), and it says that he is going to be reprising his role in the 4th movie. I think that is a definete then. As for announcing Daniel, Emma, and Rupert, didn't the kids already say they were in it? Hmm. WB better not screw this up. That is my favorite book.
Whoever said that the first hour would have to be about before Hogwarts, that is the truth dear. I mean, we got the Burrow scenes, the Quidditch cup(which they HAVE to have), and the forest scene with the Dark Mark, plus a bunch more. And then the last 1 and half hours, they have to put in the rest? How are they going to be able to do this?! It's unbelievable. They could fix all their problems by just making this more than one film like "The Matrix" or "Lord of the Rings." People don't mind. We want them to stay true to the book most of all.
I certainly hope this isn't true...I'm off to make my protest sign..."Don't cut the book you lousy, dirty crooks!" LOL

That’s far too short! Make it a 4 hour movie! Don’t take all the important scenes out! It’s an outrage! The return of Voldi alone will take half an hour. What can they show us in the remaining two hours?
But of course it is money that makes this decision. They can show the movie more often a day when it is short. But I would pay the double if it only contains everything that’s important.
I hope that’s not the final decision…

Mr. Kloves would some kind of geniuos if he manages to pull that one off. GoF in only 2 1/2 hours??? THAT would have to be one of his major challanges in life LOL. But I think that they really should do the Titanic thing and (if they want to make it one movie) make it at LEAST 3hrs15mins I mean it wouldn't hurt would it? it'll give him 45mins extra, think of the possibilities with that. I really don't think that the can be made in to 2 movies, I read here from someone (and I agree) that if that did happen, there wouldn't be an ending for the first movie, and no real begining for the second...but still GoF in 2.5hrs??? I'll believe it when I see it.

I doubt he can do it because once he gets into it, once production begins, and they see how much they have to do, it will be longer. He wants to produce a good movie so he won't cram. I bet it will be about three and a half hours. I really am a wishful thinker!

I think that is a huge mistake. I would be so much better to have two films with everything than one with just a few things. I did not even think that any of the other movies were long enough.
