Ever wonder if perhaps science could bring about the same magical effects seen in the Harry Potter books? Could a scientist genetically engineer a Fluffy? Could a broom be engineered to fly? Students at Frostburg State University in Maryland are finding out, and getting college credits while they're at it!
"This is not something where you just show up and talk about Harry Potter books and get a grade," (Professor) Plitnik said before donning his black wizard's hat and robe for a recent session. "This is a college-level class."
Plitnik's seminar may be the first science-based Harry Potter class offered for college credit, although other schools, including Penn State University, have developed similar programs for children's summer camps.

Ah, Plitnit/Flitwick again... As I posted before, I think it's a very good idea. This way you can turn a sometimes dry and theoretical subject into something more interesting. And, who knows, maybe someone will find out how a broom can fly? Maybe this is a trigger for young inventors to influence our technical world? Make magic come true? The next years will show!
Wouldn't be the first time for things described in a book to come true, remember Huxley or Orwell... Hope it will be in my time :)

Waah! I wish they had offered that when I was in college. It would have definitely made the science requirement easier to fill (did not like Chemistry).
I own the Science of Harry Potter book, and it is very intriguing; I recommend it to anyone.

Dude, SIGN ME UP! That sounds freaking awesome! My friends and I are starting a somewhat similar group like the one mentioned here called The D.A.--Dumbledore's Army. The idea rocks. I really hope they have that wherever I go to college.

Personally I think it is a bit desperate from this professor. Sounds like a lot of fun and all but to do this at University, I just wonder how many people went to his class before.

That sounds like an intriuging course, but yes, I also I think it is a desperate attempt to attract more students., though most of them would be HP fans. Too bad for him I'm going to attend ISU, not Frostburg (I say, what a funny name!).
