The movie version of Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events
is set to begin filming next Monday, and joining the cast
will be none other than Peter Pettigrew himself, Timothy Spall
.
Timothy Spall has joined Jim Carrey, Meryl Streep and Jude Law in Paramount/DreamWorks' Lemony Snicket: A Series of Unfortunate Events.
Spall will portray Mr. Poe, the ineffectual guardian of the three Baudelaire orphans who are the central characters of the film.
Filming on "Snicket," directed by Brad Silberling, is due to start Monday in Los Angeles for a holiday 2004 release.

I agree, that movie will probably be hilarious, how awesome would it be to be in a Harry Potter movie and then jump right into another movie with Jim Carrey in it.

I have read the books and they are HILARIOUS, even though much of the events are depressing. I am optimistic about seeing the movie, but I don't know whether Harry Potter fans will keep their peace when that movie is released...^_^ I cannot wait to see Jim Carrey in it.

I love the Lemony Snicket books, and I really hope they do a good job with this movie, making it every bit as witty and entertaining as the books.

Hey, I read those books! My friend got me hooked on them about a month ago, so I'll probably be seeing the movie. Jim Carrey... cool! That guy's the best. And I can definitely picture Timothy Spall as both Peter Pettigrew and Mr. Poe, just from his picture.

Mdm Rosmerta says:
The Unfortunate events are wonderful. A must read. They are very different as Harry Potter, but as addictive. And all the books haven't been released of this series either - I am still missing 11, 12 and 13.
And yes I think that Timothy will be an excellent Mr Poe - but I really can't wait for Jim Carey as Count Olaf.
Unfortunate events also have a website www.unfortunateevents.com
Lemoney snicket is not just a character - he is the writer of the books and somehow he is part of the plot, but the books don't tell us how yet.
One question is left though: the series have 13 books. Is it just going to be one film, expanding all the books? Surely they wouldn't make 13 films, there wouldn't be enough material for that.
PS: My Slytherin scarf that I was knitting is finished. I thought you should all know that.

Malakite says:
I think it's awesome that the Harry Potter movies are obviously giving several actors a lot of access to a more "world-wide" film industry. The more acting they do, the better.
Look at Hugh Grant. He has been in several American movies, we know him from them, and now they import his British films because HE is in them (look at "About A Boy", though they don't have a bunch of other American actors in them. That means there is more exposure for several British actors who might otherwise never be heard form outside the UK!
