USA Today puts the wizard-in-training at number seven on their Top 100 People of 2003
list, and Blockbuster has announced Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets was their #4 bestselling DVD of the year
, topped only by Finding Nemo, the second Lord of the Rings film and Pirates of the Carribbean.
From the USA Today list:
#7. Harry Potter - As you may have heard, thousands of salivating fans lined up to get a taste of the magic man this year. If only David Blaine could say the same ...
Blockbuster released its list in the hopes of spurring holiday shopping.

Not too unexpected. Harry Potter did so well in the books that it would be surprising if it did not finish in the top ten. Nice to see the recognition. Maybe it will attract some new fans to the series.

Like everyone, true Harry did well this year but hopefully greater next year. Finding Nemo was a great breakthrough, it was nominated for VH1's What's Big in '03? I've never seen it though..maybe I will now. Maybe another reason why Harry's second movie isn't doing that well is due to that people have already bought the movie when it was first released(like me).

Nice to see the boy wizard get his due! It was a big year with the release of OOTP as well as the COS movie on DVD. I am glad to see Harry Potter get recognized. I am sure that JKR and Harry will be on many other 2003 lists, and it will be interesting to see which adn how they fair.
Go Harry!

The reason why people perhaps may not have bothered to buy Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets on DVD was because they feared it would have the kiddy features of the Sorcerer's Stone DVD (and they may were, in a sense, right with that assumption). Pirates of the Caribbean deserved to be number one as it was one of the best films of the year, in my opinion. Can't wait for the sequel in 2005!
Finding Nemo, though I, as an adolescent, was rather disturbed by it, was another Pixar masterpiece, and it is likely it may win an Oscar for Best Animated Film. Practically every child I know under nine fell in love with the film. Was the Lord of the Rings list referring to the Platinum or First editions? Or both? Nevertheless, the epic adaptation of J.R.R. Tolkein's novel was worthy of second place.

Cool! Congrats to HP for getting fourth place. I know that this has nothing to do with Hp but, Orlando Bloom in Pirates of the Carribbean is so CUTE!!!! c'mon gals, agree with me on this.

I didn't like Finding Nemo, myself, and I knew it would rank well, but certainly did not deserve #1 for the entire year...and I hope POA is not up against the sequel to Pirates, which I did happen to like alot. But, congratulations to Harry Potter and everyone involved in making the movie.

No surprise that Harry Potter would be in the top Ten. I'm glad HP got 7th, but fist would have been better. At least HP is in the top five DVD's of the year. Congrats to HP!

I'm confused. Seems like most, if not all, the persons on the list really exist. But a book/movie character made #7. Perhaps because Harry is more real than some of the others on the list -- wonder how they feel about being beat out by JKR's imagination.

Pirates of the Carribbean beat HP? I didn't think that movie was THAT good. Finding Nemo was excellent, and I've never seen "The Two Towers." It's good that Harry Potter got on the top ten, though!

2003 was a very good year for Harry Potter. I've watched all those movies except for Finding Nemo. I think that Pirates of the Carribbean was a great movie so I have no hard feelings against it or LOTR. It's only Finding Nemo that's got me a little mad. But hey it was in the top ten and five so I'm not mad...much.

Considering that COS was released in theater in 2002 and still made it #4 is great. I know LOTR topped HP as far as DVD sales, but COS gross more when released in theaters. Enjoyed Pirates, like finding nemo although I didn't like the fact that I had to stopped my 4 y/o nephew from flushing my fish down the potty and have to explain to him that "not all drains lead to the ocean".

This was tough competition in the movie realm, with so many great ones coming out on DVD this year. I'm really glad that CoS did so well. It is the least favorite of mine as far as the books go, and even the first 2 movies. I do thing PoA will do very well in the filmmaking world. It is an excellent book, and I think Curon will do a great job with it.
