Mexican newspaper Mural
is reporting that Alfonso Cuarón
is set to arrive in Mexico City on June 3rd to give a press conference followed by the premiere of Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban according to Miguel Mallet of Warner Bros Mexico. The movie will then debut on June 4th in 550 theaters across Mexico, with most of the copies dubbed into Spanish.
According to the article Cuarón will spend two days in Mexico and then venture north to the US to start promoting the third film.
Rough translation of the article is below:
“Cuarón with Harry Potter comes”
Mexico City, Mexico (April 23th, 2004).- The producer (suppose to mean director) Alfonso Cuarón will arrive in the country on June 3rd to give a press conference and to be present at the national premier of Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, his most recent film, that will be released the next day, informed Miguel Mallet, from Warner Bros Mexico.
The Mexican director will remain two days in Mexico, said Mallet, and will return to the United States to follow with the promotion of the third delivery of the saga inspired by novels of J.K Rowling.
Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, performed by Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson and Rupert Grint, revolves around a wizard that escapes from prison to kill the boy with eyeglasses.
“They borrowed us Alfonso for a few days and we are happy about it, he will come to the premier, whose place is still to be decided and he will offer a conference,” the executive commented.
The launching in Mexico will be simultaneous to the one in the United States, in 550 theatres with most of the copies dubbed to Spanish.
The premiere in Mexico follows the premieres in New York on May 23rd & May 30th in London as previously reported

This is really great for Mexico, they must be so proud of him. It's really wonderful how this Harry Potter universe is really touching kids (and big kids) all around the world.

It's kind of odd that the American premeire will be before the London one, but I can't really complain because I live in America. And don't live anywhere near NYC :( It's cool that Mexico seems to be getting as much HP stuff as the rest of the world!

I am of course jealous of all the Mexicans who will get to see it before I do, but it's totally understandable since the director is from Mexico.

It clearly states that the PREMIERis going to be on June 3rd, and the public viewing on the FOURTH just like us in the US. It's only fair, Mexico doesn't get that much recognition at times and I think it should now.

Ok, most of you are being rather immature. Mexicans are going to see it on June FOURTH just like you all!!! The Premier is on June 3rd while, they're seeing the movie on June Fourth just like all of you guys!
And as for Veta America isn't the only good country, Mexico has good people too you know...America isn't the big s***, I was born in America, but I don't think it the best country...all countries have their good and bad...

Thats really cool that the Mexicans get it on June 3rd. Most spanish-speaking countries get the films a whole lot later than we get them, so its only fair. Plus, its one day afterall. June 4th isn't that farawar either. I remember when it was 90 days till the film...ah, memories.

I congratulate however did the translation of teh article did a very good job! But the movie will be relise Simultaniously so in other word to the general public it will open the same day as it does in the states. I would love to go! I can't wait for opening day! Any way! That is awsome that they are having a premier in Mexico! For the last two movies they did nothing of that nature. I suppose that it is becouse Alfonso is Mexican. It is funny becouse I took this survay on the article web site (Yes I can read and speak Spanish) and it said that out of the 367 people that had voted 242 people said they would go see it opening day. then 110 people said that they would see it in the first month. That is saying a lot! Shows that Harry is very famouse world wide.
That and that a lot of adults and teens like Harry Potter in Mexico becouse little kids probably don't go to look up news websites....

The premier for the third film in Mexico occurs on June third; then releases in theaters on June fourth like in America and Britian. I expect Mexico to smile with pride in that the director for one of the biggest blockbusters of the year came from their country. After watching The Little Princess in spite of the feminist nature of it, I realized that Cuaron has much more skill as a director than Chris Columbus -- my expectations for the film have increased even more!

And Great for Cuaron and his home country.
For those of you complaining the film is not due for release until at least a week later in Australia.
I am just happy and proud for Cuaron as I am sure he will be.
