According to the Sunday Herald, Alfonso Cuarón was the perfect director
for Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban because he had a real understanding of the nuances of teenage life.
As far as Harry Potter goes, Cuarón liked the script, liked the book, liked Rowling’s storytelling and her “beautiful universe, which is emotionally and socially grounded”. He has said: “It is magical but it is not Duckland, you know, like where Donald Duck lives?”
In his own projects, Cuarón has tended to take his own magical view of the real world. With Harry Potter And The Prisoner Of Azkaban he seems to have introduced a real world beyond Rowling’s bubble, taking the production out of its pre-packed snowglobe environment at Leavesden studios to film in the open around Lochaber and Glenfinnan, and encouraging Radcliffe, Watson and mugging sidekick Rupert Grint, who now wear jeans and hoodies outside Hogwarts’s gates, to use their own hormones and teen blues for flavour.

They get the movie May 31, and I don't? WAAAA!
Good interview, I'm so reileved to hear he put the story first. He will have plenty of chances to tell other stories his own way, especially if this movie does well, he will probably be able to do whatever he wants.

I also think that Alfonso was a great pick by WarnerBros. to direct this movie, because we all know that Pottermaina has died down a bit and I think Alfonso would bring it back to life!

I agree with you EmmaLover, Alfonso is a great chocie for PoA. He makes the movies more darker and a little bit scarier. I never thought Chris Columbus was a good director for the Harry Potter movies. (no offence Chris!)

Hehe, DUCKLAND.
Is that what it's called?
Anyway, Alfonso was the perfect director for this film! It seems like everything fits together perfectly, like a puzzel, on this film!
And what's this about Rupert being mugging?
That's good right?

I think Cuaron was a bad choice and we will find out soon. 2 directors rejected the offer to direct POA, he's more like sloopy seconds. I saw Y Tu Mama Tambiem and he's more of a sentimental director; I don't think he's cut out for a big budget special effect filled epic movie.

Dear butterbeerboy:
Let me tell you just a few tinny little things!!! Alfonso (as you can read,(I hope!!!)) was the best choice as director, is just impossible that the most part of the world agree with that and you just say that he doesn't I think you don't know anything about Alfonso's work the movie is called " Y tú mamá también" and that is not his only work you can watch "the little princess" or "great expectations"!! please do not speak if you don't know!!!
As for the news!! I think they are absolutely!! right Alfonso is the best choice and I hope he directs the fifth film because for me it seems to be perfect for him! I love his work and I so so so so proud to be MEXICANA!!! like him!!!! Bien hecho Cuarón!!! Eres lo máximo!!!!!
Saludos.

I think (and hope) that he will be the best Harry Potter director, he seemed to make the movie more darker with more suspense. I'm going to be really scared!

I have always supported the decision to have Cuaron be the director of PoA. He is the perfect man to bring to life the real flavor of JKR's work. I am more than excited to see this movie. Tickets are in hand and arrangements have been made! All I need now is June 4th.

I am very much looking forward to seeing this film! The more I read about Cuaron's style the more excited I get. I think that ignoring the 'big budget blockbuster' aspect of the film was a great choice. Getting to the heart of the story is what is important and let the effects help it, not the other way around.
As long as the story remains intacted, I don't care of small bits and pieces are changed.
