Even before Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban hit theatres around the world, Michael Gambon who portrays Prof. Dumbledore has been hit with letters from hundreds of children all over the world asking for signed photographs and Gary Oldman talks about his problems trying to direct and what has made him a superstar in the eyes of his son.
"I only did three weeks as Dumbledore, so I’ve forgotten everything about it. I come from the generation that’s frightened not to take the jobs that are offered. It’s been bred into me, you know. All I remember was that the costume was two layers of silk and quite light. I think I’m a very physical, very visual sort of actor. My first task in rehearsal is to discover what the person looks like, what he wears, how he does his hair. And if you’re thinking the way the character thinks, your face and body will change. My Dumbledore is quite light so he capers around, he has beads because he’s a bit of a hippy, and he has an Irish accent, because Richard was Irish."
"My kids don’t get to see a lot of my films but with Harry Potter I got enormous respect. There are two big books in our age; one’s the Bible and the other is Harry Potter. When I was a kid I watched Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, and now my kids do the same. Sirius means I get to be imprinted on generations in the same way."

Cool interviews!
"There are two big books in our age; one’s the Bible and the other is Harry Potter."
By big does he mean thickness or popularity?
I'd say either one would fit!
And was Gambon trying to give acting tips in his interview? It sure seemed like it!

Gambon will make a fine Dumbledore. I am looking forward to seeing him in the part. Oldman seems to have taken the part for the money, which is fine. But I think he will be happy to be part of this series in the end.

I am happy that Oldman is happy, but I still think that the movie producers missed a chance to cast someone cute for the twenty-something fans. Sirius is supposed to be a hot thirty-something. What was Jude Law doing? Hugh Grant? Rupert Everett? Anyway, I will enjoy the movie anyway, but at least JK Rowling understood the necessity for her adult readers to have some adult characters to imagine.

I don't think Sirius is a hot 30 something after his time in Azkaban and escape and constant move on the run. Sure he is in his 30's but he is aging and quite quickly at that. I think that these revuews are nice and Gambon has a sense of his character.

I would have enjoyed Hugh Grant as a certain, now obliviated, DADA teacher but I have my hopes up for future HP films... I think Gambon will be a great Dumbledore and Oldman is always wonderful. *cough*fifthelement!*cough* ;-)

"Indeed, in the flesh Sir Michael has more than a passing resemblance to a slightly moth-eaten circus lion, with a resonant baritone of oddly gravelly beauty, filtered through what appears to be permanent sinusitis." That doesn't sound very pretty.

Its also nice that Oldman is getting lots of respect from his kids, they must be so proud of their dad! :)

As much as i LOVED richard harris as dumbledore, i think that Sir gambon is going to be better. i always imagined Dumbledore as a sort of hyperactive old dude.

Sirius-Ella says:
Gah, you guys just don't get it?
Sirius in PoA is suppose to be gaunt and ONCE HANDSOME....he can't be some pretty boy like Jude Law!! NO it's not AT ALL how I imagined him or how he was explained..Gary is very sexy but he isn't in this movie cause of the fact he was in prison for 12 years.
I read that interview..I didn't like it that much cause the made Gary look like he's some guy who's horrible.
We all make mistakes..that's the problem with hollywood..they put the actor/actress's personal lives out there when we all do the same things...They aren't the only ones that have drinking/drugs problems.
Even though Gary had drinking problems he's still a good guy! HE's had a very hard life and I still respect and admire him. He's cleaned up now that he has kids and he's on the right path now so don't hold anything against him.

The Obsesser says:
Ian Mckellan turned down the role? That explains it. *sigh* He's always been my first choice for Dumbledore, he would have been the greatest. He would have put Micheal and Richard's interpretations together, and made an even better character. And, he's in really good healt--he'd be there through all the movies!
I mean, from the clip that we saw of his speech, he looked really good, but I really would have preferred Ian. *sigh*
Gary, I feel sorry for him, get caught in Hollywood's limits. There are a lot of actors who get messed up by Hollywood, especially child actors as they grow older. I really hope that the trio aren't on that list...
