Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban director Alfonso Cuarón appeared on Fox News's ACCESS today and thanks to The Leaky Cauldron
and Mugglenet
for letting us know about the video and transcript of his visit.
The video can be viewed HERE
, just scroll down the page to Fox Access (there is short commercial before the video).
From the transcript
:
FOX: You know there were certain things, though, that are a little bit different. Is it true that you had to ask, or at least wanted to ask, JK Rowling – you know, for instance, on changing what the kids wore – you know, is it okay if they wear their street clothes –
Cuarón: That was her idea.
FOX: Really? That was her idea? She told you?
Cuarón: Yeah.

Hmmm... Interesting article....
I can't believe that JK would be the one to let the kids wear street clothes especially when it was her work in the first place... Oh well, he did a great job with it.

As I remember from SS, the kids changed into their school clothes on the hogwarts express. I thought they had to wear their robes and ties while at school.

Nice little interview. I really did enjoy the movie, even with things missing or being passed over. I believe that the 4th movie will touch on things that were omitted and everyone will be happy. And you know, we still have the books to enjoy that contain all the wonderful details that were missing in the movies.

Interesting interview. I am glad to hear that there are plans to cover the important stuff that was missing in the next movie. Although it makes me wonder how they could do that, the fourth book being so long.

I am so over the muggle versus uniform thing. It really was not a huge difference in my opinion. Of course, the fact that so much of the book was missing might have over shadowed the missing uniforms...
I am surprised that exposition in PoA for GoF was left to be done with the next film. GoF is lengthy enough, and we have read reports that it will be one film. After seeing the adaptation (loosely used here) of PoA I am worried for the real heart of GoF. Will we see it one screen the way it is meant to be? Or wil Mike Newell allow the book to be cut into small peices the way Cuaron did?
It has been said before, and I will say it one more time:
Had 20 minutes worth of relevant dialogue been left in PoA no one would be feeling disappointed in what they saw. And these important details would not have to be written into GoF. At the rate WB is going, we will have to have an eighth film to finish everything up!

Alfonso is so amazing! I loved the movie so much. There's this feeling that you never come to rest in one place. You're just gliding through all these experiences with Harry, Ron, and Hermione. The journey never ends, you're just there for a part of it.

Wow, it is odd that it was JKR's idea about the street clothes. I think I know why though.
For one, I think that JKR thought that we would relate to the students more if they were dressed like us. And for two, I think that, well, it would look a little odd for pubescents to be running around in robes. I don't know about that last one. I just pictured them in robes now that they are...lets say "developed"...And it feels odd to me.

nice interview
movie was ok I just think they left out a little to much detail. I guess I like the more literal approche... and people who have read the books and just watched the movies I think are going to have a hard time understanding... ex. not explaining that padfood, moony wormtail and prongs all new each other... just my thoughts. This movie however was alot funnier some great scenes...

I don't know. I find it hard to believe JK would've said yes to the street clothes if she knew how often they would be wearing them. It was still a good movie. I noticed that too vigal! They never said a thing about padfoot, moony, wormtail and prongs! They will have to eventually of course. It seems like they would just get it over with in PoA, beings GoF is already going to be long. They just have to add something else in now.

Alfonso, after doing such a great job, enjoy your well deserved break!
Just saw PoA for the third time tonight, it gets better every time I see it, picked up alot more details this time around, especially Lupin! Saw it with my one kid who reads the books grudgingly and didn't like the first 2 movies much, and her friend, who has never read any of the books and only saw the first 2 movies for the second time ever this week, and they both liked PoA, so it can't be that jumpy, hard to follow and incoherent. I am so amazed at how much I like it, I am usually the voice of doom and gloom.
