According to Internet reports, a zealous fan has apparently learned the title of JK Rowling's sixth Harry Potter book.
Posted to an online message board
, the information was supposedly gleaned from a secret area on the author's official site
(behind the locked door). The message, written in first person and discussing book six's progress, is dated July 1, which coincides with the expected monthly update of Rowling's site:
01/07/04
Erm... it is perhaps time for me to reveal the title of Book 6! I am nearing completion of the first draft and have definitely decided upon a title. I had numerous possibilities in mind, but as I wrote, I realized that only one did the book justice.
The more clever Potter fans may recognize that the title relates directly to both Order of the Phoenix and Chamber of Secrets. I will be highly amused if one of you can guess exactly what's going on!
On a side note, the length of the book is growing so fast, I could swear Filius has put an Engorgement Charm on it; an editor's nightmare! I promised myself not to exceed the length of Order of the Phoenix, but every day that passes makes that undertaking more difficult. Incidentally, I have much more work ahead.
Alas, the time has come! Here is the reward for you lot that so diligently figured out all the puzzles on the site. If you scroll down to the bottom of this page, I will reveal to you the title of Book 6!
The title of Book 6 is: Harry Potter and the Pillar of Storgé.
Earlier, the "secret area" in question was simply a locked door that led to a book whose pages were filled with lorem ipsum -- filler text
that is often used when designers are laying out a page (print or online) so they can better visualize how it will look when finished. Rowling commented about it
on her site last month after a hacker found his way in.
Consider Pillar of Storgé an unconfirmed rumor (and keep in mind that "PoS" does not make a very nice acronym). If it's true, however, you might be interested to know the meaning behind "storgé":
From the Greek word storg, pronounced stor'gee (like psyche), in use in the 17th, 18th and 19th centuries to mean natural or instinctive affection, usually that of parents for their offspring, but no longer current. (The natural affection of parents for their offspring.)
Update: Check out this great site
brimming with everything you could possibly want to know about the whole debacle. MuggleNet also offers up some reasons
why this could just be an elaborate, well-executed prank.

Wow, the first person to post!
I would gladly like to think that what the fan found was true and that we get to learn what the title to the next book will be. Yet, I won't completely bleave it until I hear it from JKR's own mouth or hand.
I would like to truely bleave that this will be the title of the next book.

I don't think JKR would change the book title just because people know about it,but a year before JKR released the name of book 5 a year before it came out

That would be pretty cool if that were the title, it means it's closer to it being released. Even though I do agree, PoS is not a very good way to refer to it haha
I know they're saying there's a video of it, but do you know how easy it is for a computer hacker to make something like that up? I'm going to wait for the offical release of the name, thank you.

Hmm, why do people always have to harras her for the title? Surely she could just change it at the last minute to something else if someone did actualy find it out, in order to keep it a surprise? And i am not going to believe this it true until there is real proff, weve all heard the "I know what the next book title is!" line before, only to be proven wrong a few months later.
however, IF this realy is the title, i wounder if this pillar has something to do with Egypt, with bill weasley...charlie and the dragons have been included in the story, perhaps now its the time of the next weasley son..remember the maps/plans he was quickly folding back up in the black's house? perhaps this is something to do with this pillar? Or perhaps something to do with the arch? Ha, im getting a little carried away here, but its nice to theorise :)
We'll have to wait and see if this title is true or not.

IlliriahRising says:
I have to say that I personally think the rumored title is not all that great. SO, I am hoping it turns out to be a fake.
It's been mentioned elswhere that the likelihood of it being a prank is bolstered by the fact that when the site was hacked a few weeks back the only thing found behind the "door" was some latin text. The thing is, though, that Latin text is generally used in web design to fill in text areas on html and flash documents so that the graphics line up correctly even if there is no actual copy to go on that page-so that doesn't automatically mean that there is not some copy there NOW that was added in the last few weeks.
Either way I guess we'll all find out the truth on July first since that is when this "title" was to be revealed. If it doesn't happen I suppose we'll know it was just a great prank.

I think someone is playing a joke. It's kind of an odd title for book 6. I guess someone has a lot of time on their hands to come up with this.

This is interesting. I have seen the video of the door open and the book with the words. But I'm still skeptical at this point. If it's a hoax than this person must have been really dedicated and would have had to make the animation. But the date on the book looks like 22.06.04 not 01.07.04. So I'm still treating this like another rumor.

I wonder if this is another J.K. Rowling trick for us fans. She can be really clever sometimes. And I'm still wondering, how could the person know the exact time the door would open and he have time to record it?

if the title is true...how does does/will it fall into the plot of the whole series? 'Storge' in Greek means 'parental love' so does that mean that more will be revealed about Harry's family? or other character's family?

Oh I hope that, that really is the title of the book. That way the anticpation wouldn*t be killing me to know what the next book is! Even though it doesn*t make a good acronym I do like the title. It sounds like it would make sense for a title of a Harry Potter book. And also because of what the word Storge means. But I am not going to believe it is the actual title until J.K.R. says it herself officially. I just want the book to be finished so I can read it!

That's a weird title to name the sixth book. It seems good for the 6th book. I already read that it was going to be called this on mugglenet. That's a really nice name, I hope the book turns out great.
