Two of Tom Riddle's prop diaries used in Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets have sold on eBay in a private auction for over $4,000 combined.
An "Original Tom Marvolo Riddle Diary"
received an opening bid of $1,700 but went to the winner (and second bidder) for $2,125. A "special effects" edition
, which featured tubes that squirt black ink through the cover, was purchased for $1,900 using eBay's Buy it Now feature, which caused the auction to close early.
The two books were used during various filming of the second Potter movie in 2002.

The special effects one sounds awesome! It'd be nice to have that kind of money but I personally don't think that those would be what I would buy with it, though in the future, they will probably be worth much much more!

That's a bit excessive. It would have been cool to have them, but I wouldn't ever pay that much money.

I don't think I'd pay that much just for movie props like that... even if I had the money, but it's still awesome for whoever got them. I'd definitely pay that much for the Firebolt or something if I had the money!

Pretty cool, I wonder who decided to put them up for auction. Doesn't warner brothers technically own the rights to all the props? I wonder if someone stole them from the set and decided to sell them!

I wouldn't pay that much for a prop, besides... there's nothing in it. I guess if I was rich it'd be cool to own.

ARE YOU KIDDING? man, that's a lot of money just for two blank "diaries" i mean there isn't anything in them... $4000 can do a lot for real important things, like school, charity, and stuff... geez, this is CRAZY!!!

Woa! I wouldn't ever pay that much for a prop. Whoever did though must really be a big fan of hp or maybe just rich or something.

I know that it's loads of money...but some people are obsessed fans. I remember when a teenage girl paid $1000 for Justin Timberlake's unfinished omelet! Now that's weird! I wonder if the liquid will still spurt out of that diary. If so, cool!

It's crazy how much money people will spend on these types of things. Kinda like that person that paid all the cash for the 93(?) worded hint about OotP...

Wow! That would be cool to own. I know I wouldn't pay that much for just a prop. But congratulations to whoever won it!

Harry Potter props are probably good investments. They certainly would be interesting conversation pieces to own...if you had Harry Potter friends. I would prefer to have the Sorcerer's Stone!

Hmmm-- as Teri Rawlings said--that's alot of money for empty books. It not's likely they will answer any questions for the new owner.

WHOA! That's a lot of money just for some little prop used in an HP film. I mean sure it would be cool to have a book the squirted it's own ink and all, but I wouldn't pay that much money for something that I would never use. I mean if i could get good use out of it, then maybe, but that's a BIG maybe. But congrats to the person who won it in the auction, I hope they enjoy having it.

Wow. Well if i had an extra $4,000 laying around i know what i would have spent it on. That is a lot of money but it would be sooooo cool to have something that was actually used by the movie and the actors.

Well, it was $4000 combined. I wonder where the money goes to. It never said anything about a charity did it? If I had a choice between the two journals, I'd pick the plain-looking one. The special effects journal doesn't look as neat with all the tubes sticking out of it.

Cool...but the question that comes after all the spending is this: "What do i do with them?"
I'm sure the lucky owners have them behind glass...if not, i suggest it...although, i don't know if i could resist buying the Basalisk Anamatronick and ripping out it's tooth and then after that, faking being bitten, stab the ink diary yelling: "Die Tom...Die!"
ummm...
yeah.
Anyway, i wonder if the diary dan(harry) was writing in was auctioned with the hand-writing in it?
