Acclaimed independent film director Mira Nair
has been invited to direct Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, according to Brazilian entertainment site Cinema em Cena
.
The site links Warner Bros.' choice of Alfonso CuarĂ³n, a relatively obscure director prior to helming Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, with their report. Nair directed 2001's Monsoon Wedding and the just-released Vanity Fair.
When contacted by HPANA, an intern at Nair's offices in New York said she wasn't aware of any such announcement, but now The Times of India has quotes
from the director saying she read the book over the weekend and is "still deciding":
I never let fame go to my head: "I'm getting offers to direct Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix. I read it over the weekend. I'm still deciding... I'm not letting all this go to my head. I'm grounded. I practise detachment, it helps me keep my balance. I'm a Dilliwalli [someone from Delhi], only an asana [a position in Yoga] gets me on my head! My son Zoharan's excited. I've seen all the Harry Potter movies with him."
Thanks to OdFHP.com
and our own Geri for the tips.

Oh... I never heard of her. In my opinion, I'll just stick with the original director.

Well, I wasn't planning on seeing Vanity Fair, which was directed by Nair, but now I suppose I will to check out her film style. I hope they invite Alfonso Cuaron to come back. I would love to see what he does with the fifth film. He was so fantastic for Azkaban. But also, Steve Kloves isn't writing the fifth script, so the big topic of the moment is who is going to write that? I'm a bit more curious to hear about that over who will be directing.

Mira Nair is a wonderful director! She has filmed some of the most visually stunning films I have ever seen, some of which are my favorites: Monsoon Wedding, Mississippi Masala, Kama Sutra: A Tale of Love, and now Vanity Fair.
I don't want her to lower her standards and start directing gigantic Hollywood affairs like Harry Potter movies, so I'm glad that's still just a rumor. She does *girly* movies very well, not children's films. And don't try and tell me Harry Potter isn't designed foremost with children in mind.

I don't care who directs the 5th movie, just as long as they stay true to book and don't butcher it. So if she is it, then i'm all for it.

I don't believe this one. In the article posted from Movie Magic magazine they said that Mike Newell may return for OotP depending on how GoF goes. They also said that they have heard rumors of Chris Columbus coming back sometime before the end of the series.

It's kind of funny how the directors last as long as the DADA teachers in Harry Potter. The only one to direct 2 was chris columbus, everyone else is new.

Looks like this is really nothing more than a rumour. I don't know Mira Nair, but personally I don't care who will direct OotP as long as they do a good job.

Not another new director.
I wonder why they keep getting new directors?
Is it because after they've done one (or two in Chris's case), that they're sick of it? Or do they want to keep it fresh?
Makes me wonder...

Wow, never heard of that director but I think it's a rumour, Warners Brothers can't tell the public who's directing the fifth movie that fast, weird.
Anyway I hope the new director is good.

Honestly, i've never heard of her. But if she directed vanity Fair, well i think she has the potential. But i like Alfonso to be back in the 5th movie, though. Michael Moore was also been rumoured before her.

Wow! At least WB's preparing for OoTP. I read somewhere that they were confirmed on making 4 out of the 7. But I really do hope this (HP5) pushes through. And yeah, I thought either Cuaron or Columbus would come back for the next installment.

It will be interesting having a womens perspecive on the film, it has always felt very mascalin during the pervious films. And it is written by a woman.

Who is she? i have never heard of her before. but like someone else said it would be nice to have a woman direct the next one. think about all those girly parts. a guy director wouldn't exactly know how to do it. so maybe one day will get a girl director.
