Acclaimed independent film director Mira Nair
has been invited to direct Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, according to Brazilian entertainment site Cinema em Cena
.
The site links Warner Bros.' choice of Alfonso CuarĂ³n, a relatively obscure director prior to helming Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, with their report. Nair directed 2001's Monsoon Wedding and the just-released Vanity Fair.
When contacted by HPANA, an intern at Nair's offices in New York said she wasn't aware of any such announcement, but now The Times of India has quotes
from the director saying she read the book over the weekend and is "still deciding":
I never let fame go to my head: "I'm getting offers to direct Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix. I read it over the weekend. I'm still deciding... I'm not letting all this go to my head. I'm grounded. I practise detachment, it helps me keep my balance. I'm a Dilliwalli [someone from Delhi], only an asana [a position in Yoga] gets me on my head! My son Zoharan's excited. I've seen all the Harry Potter movies with him."
Thanks to OdFHP.com
and our own Geri for the tips.

Hey that would be cool if it were true. I'm hoping it's Alfonso whose directing though. I think it would be cool if he did. He did a really good job with the 3rd film.

Whilst this is definately staying in my rumours column it would be awesome to have a female director! This is definately a rumour I wouldn't mind turning out to be true.

I don't care who directs the next harry potter, but they have to be as good as alfonso. He made POA the best it can ever be. I also hope the origional cast is in the fifth book, hopefully the producers will come to their senses and keep them

Hmmm..i dont realy want them too keep changing directors for all the HP films, it makes them all different from each other and so they dont flow together as well as they would do is the same director was used..even POA..HUGE change there, uniforms, even the hogwarts grounds and parts of the castle were changed from the previous films...
It sounds like a rumour, too far away to tell who it will be.

If she directs the movie i hope she doesnt cut out a lot of important scenes or shorten it to make it fit a certain time limit.

I don't want Alfonso to direct any Harry Potter movie ever again. He didn't do a good job with the third movie. I thought it was too short and didn't have alot of important facts. I hated the new Dumbledore. And they changed the Fat Lady AND Cornilius Fudge. I mean, What's up with that?

I hope it's a rumor! I mean I really want Chris to come back, he did a wonderful job directing and followed the books so well! POA was butchered. But I think Newell is doing a pretty good job by the sounds of things here...

Mira Nair could be interesting, but I truely doubt it's not purely speculation based on the choice of Cuaron for PoA.
As for the issue of different director's... Since they're by necessity filming this series over a span of years (for all we know, it could end up being 10 years or more from film 1 to film 7), it's going to not be a "fluid" series in any event (or the last film would seem extremely dated for its time). I quite like the idea of using different directors. :)
