On his personal site, actor Chris Rankin revealed
today that he doesn't think his character Percy Weasley will be appearing in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire.
His latest contract included Prisoner of Azkaban "+ 1," meaning one more film, but not necessarily the next one:
Having been speaking to my agent about why I've not heard anything from Warner Brothers re: Goblet of Fire, they've been making some enquiries into the legal side of not being used on the film, when I've been contracted to it... Turns out that my contract states that I was contracted to appear in Prisoner of Azkaban +1 more HP film - it doesn't have to be the next in the series (as we'd all presumed) - what this basically means is that we're unlikely to be seeing Percy in Goblet of Fire, but that doesn't mean that he won't be in another film along the lines of the series...
Rankin added that he's content to work on his own projects for the time being. His twenty-first birthday is in October, and he's also coming to the U.S. next month.
Percy plays a much bigger role in Order of the Phoenix, the fifth in JK Rowling's book series.

Geez, Percy always gets the short end of the stick. I love his character! And Chris is wonderful at it. That's disappointing. At least Chris has a successful career outside of HP so we don't need to worry about him, but I look forward to him in the 5th! Nice to know at least one of them will be back.

Well that to bad for him, but at least he will be in another movie. So i guess it better for him to not be in GOF than to not be in OOTP which is I think a more importaint movie for him to be in. So than who will be the judge when crouch is gone cause it was supposed to be Percy?

I wish he was in GOF! He's there during the triwizard tournement and during the qidditch world cup. I hope Mike knows what he's doing. GOF is my favorite book so I hope the movie turns out to be brilliant. POA + 1, does that mean he can only appaer in one more movie?

I could see where this could be frustrating for Chris (and the Dursleys in a similar manner), since this is a big role for him and a chance to be seen. Although Iwould like to see him in GOf, heis really not that important to the story. It would be a real shame if he were not in OOTP. That is the film, I would like to see him in.

Wait, isn't Percy supposed to judge the Triwizard and attend the Yule Ball? How much are they changing in this movie?

I ponder on how the script will tell us of Barty Crouch Senior taking a departure from work at the command of Voldemort during the Yule Ball, if Chris Rankin as Percy doesn't appear. We'll just have to wait to see. Other than that, I find no disappointment with the omission of a minor detail in the story. As for the defense that he judges, do you really expect them to waste three minutes showing the judges scoring, a corny visual? As far as I know, they'll skip the scores altogether.
I eagerly anticipate his return in Order of the Phoenix. I just love how he portrays the character.
Excuse me -- I'm headboy!

Well, that will be a little odd, seeing as how Percy stands in for Crouch as a Triwizard judge, but I will withhold true comments until I see the finished product next year.

I think that it kind of stupid not to have Percy in this film. But he does have a bigger part in OotP so I guess we will just have to trust WB and the director to make a great movie!

although percy plays an important role in 'Order of the Phoenix', his character would seem incomplete without an appearance in the 4th movie. plus, percy's bossiness adds spice to the movies!

I think that that kind of sucks because he is in the book quite a bit since he is suppose to be the fill in for Mr.Crouch. I mean it is sad enough that the Dursleys aren't suppose to be in this film and I thought the part that they play in the beginning of the book will be a bit disappointing.

I would think he would know this by now. I think percy needs to be in this movie though. It outlines his role in book 5! Unless he is not in the 5th movie either!

Its too bad that he won't be in GoF, but at least he will be in one more movie. More than likely it will be OOtP in my opinion. First the Dursleys, now Percy, i seriously hope they don't cut out too much more of this movie.

I think Percy is only in one part of the Order of the Phoenix and that is at Harry's hearing. They talk about him a lot, but he is not really there. He was in the Goblet of Fire a lot more. I think he is important in that book too.

I think even if he has a little part its a bit bad to just cut him of that!! they should have him in it! because after all he is a charcater!! they are cutting loads from the new film im starting to worry if there is going to be anything in it at all!!

Well, there's nothing we can do about it but boohoo and gain points by boohooing, right?
But seriously, Percy's main character development happens in GoF, his motivations change when he gets a job at the MoM. It seems silly to not have him on GoF... but, like I said...

How are they going to do the Second Task without Percy? I just don't get it! Grrr... I'm sure there's some legitimate reason for cutting out his character. We'll just have to wait another year to see. Oh, and I still don't get why Percy never wore glasses in the movies (because I definitely remember it being mentioned that he had glasses in the books).

That is so stupid... are they going to have any characters left by the end of the films? It just seems like they're cutting everyone that they don't think has a big enough part?.... well hello! Percy took over for mr crouch at the judging and all of that, he was in the fourth book quite a bit in my opinion and even less seen in OotP... what are they thinking... they should have they're heads checked!!!
