Timothy Spall, who played Peter Pettigrew in Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, has been cast in the film version of A Series of Unfortunate Events as Mr. Poe.
The book and its sequels, by Lemony Snicket (pseudonym for author Daniel Handler), rocketed to success thanks in part to revitalized interest in children's literature created by J.K. Rowling's Harry Potter series.
A trailer
for the film was recently released, and the movie debuts in theaters December 17. The film also featured mega-star Jim Carrey, whom the author said "really scared" him with his portrayal of Count Olaf.

I thought he did a great job as being that ugly Peter Pettigrew! He made it so realistic. I swear that everyone lately has been reading those Unfortunate books, and I didnt know that they were making a movie... are the books really good?

He was such a great Peter Pettigrew!! I hope that he is going to continue playing in the coming Harry Potter movies. Is he playing in GoF?? He is an essential part, expecially with the re-birth of He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named!!

I've never read the books, but they look interesting. Maybe I'll borrow them from the library before I decide on watching the movie or not. Tim Spall did a good job in PoA, and Jim Carrey is a favorite of mine also.

Lemony Snickett rocks! Enough to get me through the next year anyway. Mr. Poe is supposed to be nice and homey. I hope his makeup will do make him that way because he is still wormtail to me.

Lemony Snicket is one of my favorites! I do hope that when I see Series I will not look at Spall and instantly read "betraying rat". PoA is the only movie I have ever seen Tomothy Spall act in - at least that I know of.
