It would seem that the hunt for a director for the next Harry Potter movie is underway even though they haven't finished filming Goblet of Fire.
Earlier last week Ain't it Cool News reported
that French director Jean-Pierre Jeunet
had been approached by Warner Bros. to direct Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix. Jeunet most recently directed City of Lost Children, Alien: Resurrection, and Amélie
Jeunet now confirms through Variety that he has been talking to Warner Bros. about the film but is still undecided about taking on the role:
The helmer also is mulling what film project to tackle next. Warners has been sounding him out about the next Harry Potter pic, Jeunet said, but it is hard to think clearly with A Very Long Engagement still in his system.
"Making a film is like a love affair," said the helmer. "I'm not capable of moving straight on from one to the next."
This follows news that Mira Nair had also been approached
to direct the film.

Oh, please, oh please, oh please - let Jean-Pierre Jeunet direct Order of the Phoenix! Amelie and City of Lost Childern are two of my favorite films! I think he's a great choice for the series. I'm quivering just thinking about the possibility. Jeunet has a really great artistic sensibility and I would love to see what he could do with the Potterverse.
I was hoping that Alfonso Cuaron would be asked back, but I think that Jeunet would be fantastic. I'm so pleased that Warner Bros. is pushing the traditional boundaries of the films - I think it makes it much more interesting.
I'm guessing that Mira Nair must have turned the project down. Oh well, I'm all for Jeunet! Yay!

I hope so too Bex-L-Snape ;)! The movies just wouldnt be the same if the trio changed halfway through. Dan is Harry Potter in the minds of so many people. I don't know much about Jean-Pierre Jeunet, though. The only film of his I've heard of is Amelie. Gotta go check that out!

I wish the decision would be made already!! The longer they wait the more likely it is that it won't happen.

It is nice to hear the signing up for the films is moving along. My guess is that it won't be too much longer until we start to hear if they will maintain the original cast. I think that is much more important that who will direct the film. But a different director will appeal to the trio, since they like the exposure to new people.

I loved his movie Amelie! It was great. I don't really know any of his othere works but it would be cool if he did the next movie. I think its just funny that the books are set in like England and written by an english women but all the directors have not been from england. Not that it really matters where you are from because her writting is so brilliant and so is Steve Kloves' screen plays. So in the end I believe just about any one could direct the movie it would still be great. But Good luck to him.

Another director! Although I'm really glad they are looking for someone, that probably means their going to try to get Order of the Phoenix out fairly quickly, I really miss Chris Columbus! I know he produced movie 3. I wonder if Chris is producing all of the remaining movies, having him around might help the directors stick to the spirit of the books.

Oh I just love this quote,
"Making a film is like a love affair," said the helmer. "I'm not capable of moving straight on from one to the next."
What a romantic! I love the way they choose really excellent directors for their films. But, I must admit, I wish they would just stick with one. It gives the movies much more continuity, and a solid vision.
Does even know if Cuaron declined to do the next film, or if he just wasn't offered again?

So many directors!! I wonder why they are having a different one for each movie... I understand the directors have other projects, but I wonder why they don't choose somebody that can direct more than one... It's interesting though how different directors approach the movies. Chris Columbus and Alfonso Cuaron had such different styles, but both were very good. I guess different directors can add more variety to the films. Anyway, I CANT WAIT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think Amelie is an awesome movie and I think he could give a good interpritation of OotP! I haven't seen any of his other movies, but I'm sure they are good too!! Amelie was pretty wacky, and that kind of style would go well with JK' story!

I don't care too much about who directs it, as long as it does justice to the book. If it doesn't then I would be a little upset.

I hope that a director says yes soon so that they can start on all the preproduction. I am hoping that whoever says yes will do justice to the book.
