A few weeks ago we posted
pictures and a story about JK Rowling's donation to the 999 Club
of a mini-book based on Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone. The auction
, held last night at Sotheby's in London, raised a total of £125,000 ($229,768), of which £11,000 ($20,000) was paid for Rowling's book.
J.K. Rowling's one-inch (2.5-centimetre) tome -- which included pictures of Harry's witch's hat, broomstick and wire-rimmed spectacles -- was the third most expensive lot at a charity auction at Sotheby's.
The highest bid went for boxing legend Muhammad Ali's sketch of himself fighting Joe Frazier.

I am surprised at the price. Hard to see how it went for that. I wish I had that kind of money. Not sure if I would spend it on just one Potter item. I would want more.

It's really nice that J.K. did that. I wonder what kind of charity it's for? I'm glad that J.K. Rowling remembers what it was like before she had money.

Thats a lot of money for a little book. I wonder what else it has in it though. I wonder if it was a fan of Harry Potter or just some random person who knew the name. I don't think I would spend that much on a book, it was for charity though. Its great that people help charities and such it makes the world a better place.

These types of auctions always make me wonder who is buying these unique items - plus, who has the money for it? Still, that's a really cool item and I think it's brilliant that Jo contributes her energy and time to these charity efforts.
It's such a cute little book! But I'd be afraid I'd lose it somewhere. It would have to be framed, straightaway.

Dang, that sure is a lot of money for a teeny book. But I guess since people are such crazed HP fans, it would definately be worth it. Look at all the money the charity's raised!
