In May 2004, the U.S. Army's official Preventive Maintenance Monthly, a cartoon magazine that instructs soldiers how to take care of their military equipment, published a humourous eight-page spoof of the Harry Potter world.
Army officials visit Mogmorts and learn from Professor Rumbledoore and his staff about proper maintenance techniques for magical gear, including brooms, wands and cauldrons (tip: "PM" in the cartoon stands for "preventive maintenance"):
Many thanks to Army weekend reservist Greg for sending us a copy last year, and sorry for taking so long to post!
UPDATE: This has now become the focus of a possible copyright infringement charge by JK Rowling's representatives and Warner Bros. against the U.S. Army. We'll keep you posted.

I remember that one! Those PM magazines that the Army gets are pretty funny. This one I think I still have somewhere in storage... The purpose of the pamphlet (for those who didn't know) are to inform soldiers about the proper care and maintanence of their tools and equipment. The cartoons that they have in the center, usually focusing on a tough, old Master Sergeant (means he's been around awhile!) Through out the rest of the pamphlet there are talking weapons and equipment that show the soldiers what too look for or how to fix something on their level! Pretty smart way to get the point across without being too dull!

Whoa! Even the US Army is taking notice of Harry Potter. I think that is really awesome. I will have to look at that. It's good that the troops overseas can get their HP fix.

That's sad. Harry Potter shouldn't have any connections to the American military in any capacity. It's a blemish to the series.

Well, if I was in the Army and I had never read the seires, I would surely have to get my hands on the first book to see what all the parodying was all about. I think it could cause a surge of interest in a whole new audience.
Yay!
Thanks to all the soldiers who defend freedom here and everywhere else. I hope they liked the brief break in the serious day-of-life they live.

That was a strange....spoof, even though parts of it were funny. I like "Longshanks and Prof. Snappy." I wonder why Harry was put next to the sleeping potion and Ron to the truth potion.

That was so cheesey! I can't believe they actually used that. I can just picture myself cracking up and laughing in someones face if they tried to use that just to teach me about keeping my guns clean...especially them showing that to army people!! HAH!!
