Amazon UK has apologized
to customers who pre-ordered Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince after it sent an e-mail saying it would not be available and to look for it elsewhere.
The same mistake occurred in December with Amazon.com in the U.S
. The company said it sent "howlers to the muggles responsible" and were investigating a link to Lord Voldemort.
Half-Blood Prince, the sixth book out of seven in JK Rowling's Harry Potter series, will be released July 16 in the U.S. and UK, among other English-speaking countries.

Now that really sucks! But most HP fans have reserved or ordered the book from various stores. I have one reserved at every bookstore within a 15 mile radius of my house!!

Kudos to Amazon.com for handling all of this with Harry Potter humor! What a great lesson in how to turn potentially bad press into something humorous and worth remembering!

Very funny actually. It is amazing how errors like this happen. At least they seem to have a sense of humor about it.

Hahahaha... Of course Amazon would have it. I love how that got into "character" for that. It would have been highly amusing to get an email like that from them. I can't wait for July 16th!

I'm with Elishka...nice touch of HP-World humor to ease the tension that fans must surely have felt in thinking they would not receive their books.

I agree with Elishka that it's very sporting of Amazon to put a humourous spin on this huge blunder (especially since it could cost them some sales!) -- that might put some of the spooked HP fans at ease! *whew* feeling good that I pre-ordered from our local independent shop!

I'm glad that the situation was cleared up and with wonderful humor! Although, I would have freaked out myself if I received and e-mail saying the book wasn't coming out in July (which isn't soon enough!!).

I am one of those who received the emails. The first one, last night. And then the correction email, today. Must admit, the first one didn't make much sense, since the book has yet to be released.

It is bad that this kind of mistakes happen, but is good for the companies to apologize I think that the companies may give some extra gift as an extra apologize for they mistake.

Well, it's always Lord Voldemort's fault, isn't it? Of course they wouldn't NOT let the books preordered to the customers. But I giggled a bit when I saw their rationale...hehehe. I am a Harry Potter geek.
