One example: The film will not deal with the subplot involving Winky and Dobby, two house elves, and the issue of SPEW.
According to Heyman:
It's Hermione's issue. Not to say Hermione's [not important]. Hermione's a vitally important character. But you have to make some choices. ... One piece of information ... we've put into another character, which feels perfectly organic [and] works. ... The story works perfectly without [the elf story]. And we consulted with Jo [Potter author J.K. Rowling] about it, and she was fine [with it].
Other things that we can expect to see in the movie:

I wish the films could be as long as the books. I could sit for hours watching! Since cuts must be made, though, I think that SPEW could definitely be ousted, as well as the Dobby/Winky scenes. I was hoping to see what Winky would look like "in person"!!!

Yeah, I didn't think Rowling would mind all the trimming. As long as she's making a pretty penny, she doesn't really seem to mind these Hollywood goons butchering the Harry Potter plot. what ever happened to the artists integrity? Tsk tsk tsk.....

that kind of stinks, but Hey at leats there is a movie. That book was long and I personally do not want to stay in a movie theatre for 4 hours watching a movie anyway. That subplot would have been interesting in the novie though.

I know I'm supposed to be all accepting of the movies, but I just CAN'T be. They make me so unhappy!! SPEW is very important, and there's so much important, character-related stuff, and allegorical and ethical issues that just don't make it into the movies, and it breaks my heart to think that there are people whose only exposure to Harry Potter will be this stripped-down movie version . . .
Okay, I'm clearly get a little over-excited here. They're just books, Katy. They're just books.

Oh My GOSH!!! I can not believe that they are cutting that!!! How are they supposed to show Barty Crouch Junior at the World cup then? And how is Harry gonna get the gillyweed? Is he just gonna get it him self? Yeah right!! How would that work?!!! Ughh that makes me so mad!! Next thing you know there only gonna show part of the world cup..then none of it... then the whole movie will be entirely messed up!!! Okay, maybe Im over exagerating a little bit. But still! I liked Dobby and Winky!! AND there is so much more in the book than "Harry and Harry's journey"!!! Every one has a journey of there own!! and they cant just cut it out likes its nothing!! Its part of what makes the books so great!!! Ughh anyways...

I also think the SPEW storyline is funny, but I can see why it was cut for the film. If JKR has Ok'd this cut I think we may not be seeing SPEW go anywhere beyond what we've already seen in the books. JKR has fought to have certain "clues" kept in the movies that will be relevant to future films. If she let SPEW go I think we can assume it never becomes a major plot point in the future books either.

That sucks! WHy do they have to ruin the movie??? S.P.E.W is a VERY important part of the story line, and WINKY?!? She was part of how the dark mark accured! I can't believe it. If theyb were more faithful to the flippin' story, They would make more money! There are TONS of fans that would be willing to watch a 6 hour film... Or else, I would.

That is not too bad. It could have been worse. They could have taken out something that was more important to the plot and that would have been really bad. Though at the same time it kind of sucks because I really liked the SPEW thing. Oh well, for the goodness of the movie I guess.

Well, even though I know it isn't practical, I would sit through a 3 or 4 hour film as long as it was entertaining. I did it with all of the LOTR films--and we saw them all in the theater more than once! Not a problem for me...but I know that these books are also for kids and I know it's more difficult to keep the little ones still for that long. As long as Jo is satisfied, then...
