British tabloid The Mail on Sunday
states in article today that Katie Leung, the 17-year-old Scottish actress playing Cho Chang in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, has become "a hate figure for obsessive fans" on the Internet.
In the article titled Harry Potter and the Poisoned Chalice the author goes on to say “cores of fake websites have sprung up, some apparently giving her thoughts and feelings in diary form. There are photographs purporting to be of Katie, and many are of obviously older, more experienced girls in revealing poses. Most disturbing are several 'hate Katie' sites where youngsters are encouraged to explain in graphic detail why they loathe the dark-haired beauty."
Katie’s father is quoted as saying:
I have seen these sites. I have looked at every one of them. It is rather frightening when you see things like "hate Katie." It is incredible, really. I can't make sense of it, although I know how popular Harry Potter is. Katie is only 17 and hasn't even appeared on film. No one knows her, has seen her or heard her speak, yet there are all these things on the Internet. Unfortunately I know she has seen them, too. She reads them all and it is a great pressure on her. With these websites, I cannot even think what may happen when the film eventually comes out. In a way I'm dreading it. She's been told she mustn't give interviews or speak to anybody until the producers say it's time. It's all happened so fast.

I just don't understand this kind of thing; hating an actor or actress based on a role they play. But you'll always have this type of thing and people, even children, going into the movie business need to keep this in mind and try as hard as possible to put it out of their minds.

I don't see why anyone should be hating poor Katie! She's just the lucky girl who got the much desired role of Cho, and that's that. That happens to be all I have to say on the matter, because I think that it is extremely childish and immature to be so jealous of one of the luckiest girls in the world that you have to post hateful words about her out in the open for everyone to see......

Bless her heart. I hope she hasn't gotten in over her head here. And I hope that no one messes with her. I mean, her dad needs to keep a close eye on her with all these hate fans out now. Some people who cannot seperate fantasy from reality will do some aweful things.
It's OK, I say more power to her for getting the role on a whim.

ok as much as I feel sorry for her, most of the kids who work in HP have some hate site, I think the most is Emma, the poor girl have some sites that really are mean to her, but they never publish those things in the press, I think also his dad should stop getting interview, he is not working in the movies, so he should not make comments about things he doens't know.
I really don't like this quote from her dad:
"Privately, I would guess this will be the last one for which they will be suitable and almost certainly that they will want to do,’ he says. 'Any minute now, it will not be cool for a 16 or 17-year-old to be Harry Potter."
What that fu#*% is he talking about, HP is not a childrens book, and he should be proud and please that his daughter is going to be in one of the biggest movies ever in history, I hope he appreciate what is to be in this huge production.

I thought all that drama happened in the OofP? I also thought that it was Hermione that gave Harry a quick kiss sometime at the end of GoF…correct me if I’m wrong, I haven’t read that book in awhile.
As for Katie playing the part of Cho…I’m still undecided about that myself. I thought Emma was too pretty to play Hermione (does anyone think she has bushy hair and buck teeth? ::which should be changed in GoF when they are fixed after Malfoy makes them too big::) but I think she does a wonderful job. So we’ll have to see how the movie is and just remember that it’s probably a bunch of immature, jealous people out there making these hateful sites. I wish Katie and her family the best and I hope they stop reading those nasty websites!

As far as the character goes, Cho is complex as well as Harry. The character when through a lot. She lost her boyfriend.That had to be really hard and sometimes people turn to other people in time of grief such as Cho turning to Harry.

Someone please tell me what's wrong with the people in this world? Some poor 17 year old kid should not have to go through that sort of unfair, malicious, derogatory nonsense. Personally, I would never want to be in a movie, or anything like that, because I couldn't deal with lots of public attention. I hope this girl has people around her who can help her through all the stress she's facing. As someone else said, let's hope she's not in over her head. It'd be awful if the movies had a different Cho Chang each time because people so harassed the actresses.
The owners of those hate sites should be tracked down and sued for defamation of character and lible. As for the empty-headed, bratty girls making themselves feel better about their boyfriend-less lives by bashing this actress in posts, get a grip on yourselves. You're never going to get Daniel Radcliff anyway, and even if you did, he'd probably dump you the very instant he found out you were one of those nasty, obsessed fans posting against his fellow actors. No body wants jealous people. The same goes for the Emma bashers. Emma's an awesome young actress, and I hope she goes on to a promising career. I'll bet this girl also turns out to have a great deal of talent. Katie, good luck and don't let them get you down!

This is the problem with the 'shippers. They don't understand that the relationships in the stories aren't as important as the story itself.
Perhaps Warner Bros. needs to run ads for teen counselors along with its films. Some kids just don't get it.
