Harry Potter author JK Rowling will read
from her latest book, Half-Blood Prince, at the stroke of midnight July 16, the book's release date, in Edinburgh Castle. It will be broadcast around the world on television and radio, according
to CBBC Newsround.
Attending will be 70 "cub" reporters -- from age eight to 16 -- who won competitions from newspapers around the world. Each will receive a signed copy of the book. The event is dubbed the "Harry Potter Children's Press Conference."
The kids will have a chance to read the book in a special room of Edinburgh Castle before visiting with Jo again on Sunday to ask questions ("grill me," Rowling said in her announcement).
Later that weekend, Rowling will be interviewed by Melissa and Emerson, of fan sites The Leaky Cauldron
and MuggleNet
, respectively. (TLC was also awarded JK Rowling's latest Fan Site Award
, so congratulations to them!)
Finally, the FAQ section
of Rowling's web site was updated with more questions and answers.

I think it is great that JK Rowling is willing to read to the kids. But why has she excluded American children from the competition? I cannot believe she is that prejudice and I sincerely hope it is an oversight, which will be corrected.

Why don't adult readers get to do something as special as this? Sometimes I wish I didn't have to grow up.

Of the English speaking nations in the world, only a few had the opportunity to apply for it. I hadn't even heard that was doing anything like this until right now. I was quite surprised personally that would be doing this. Broadcast live, worldwide? What on a news station, or on a certain channel? Hmmm...I wonder when more information will be released. It is lucky though for children to be able to go and have a once in a lifetime experience.

OH MY GOD!!!!!!!!! well i shouldnt be as intensely excited now. Hogwarts Champion told me about it at least 24 hours ago. We devised a plan to become the cub reporters. The problem is we spent ages going through all the papers and we didnt find a thing, although it was like ten am on the 14th.
We will keep combing. I REALLY WANT TO GO!!! IT WOULD BE SUCH A FANTASTIC OPPORTUNITY!!!
although, at the moment we are booked on the 'Gleewarts Express'. It is a train that leaves Platform and three quarters (central) at 6 am and when you arrive in Hogsmeade at 9 am, then you get the book and you canr read it for the next 4 hours.

I read about this on one of the links provided in the scrolling news. Very cool. I'm excited for all those who live in places that qualify and who are in the age-range to qualify. Unfortunately, I am neither. I wonder if JKR will ever have an opportunity like this for her adult fans?

I would love to be one of those people to get a reading of the book from JKR and then get it signed. Then they get to ask her all these questions and get them ansewered, within reason.
