Harry Potter author JK Rowling will read
from her latest book, Half-Blood Prince, at the stroke of midnight July 16, the book's release date, in Edinburgh Castle. It will be broadcast around the world on television and radio, according
to CBBC Newsround.
Attending will be 70 "cub" reporters -- from age eight to 16 -- who won competitions from newspapers around the world. Each will receive a signed copy of the book. The event is dubbed the "Harry Potter Children's Press Conference."
The kids will have a chance to read the book in a special room of Edinburgh Castle before visiting with Jo again on Sunday to ask questions ("grill me," Rowling said in her announcement).
Later that weekend, Rowling will be interviewed by Melissa and Emerson, of fan sites The Leaky Cauldron
and MuggleNet
, respectively. (TLC was also awarded JK Rowling's latest Fan Site Award
, so congratulations to them!)
Finally, the FAQ section
of Rowling's web site was updated with more questions and answers.

I would love to be one of those people to get a reading of the book from JKR and then get it signed. Then they get to ask her all these questions and get them ansewered, within reason.

It's not fair - I'm 17! I live in Victoria, Australia and it wasn't in today's (or yesterday's) Age. Tried the Herald Sun website, but that had nothing too. It will probably be in The Age, as it had the RAH event competition. It would be an amazing weekend!

I am so happy for those kids! That must be a chance of a life time, to have the author herself read the book!Tolkein used to read his novels to his children, which must have been fabulous because he read it the was it was intended to be read!

That's really cool. I wish I could be there. I want to meet her soo badly. I admire her so much. I am definately going to tape her broadcast- but I've had bad experiences with taping HP things off television when I'm not at home. Hope I do better this time!

Those are some lucky kids, i'm happy that JKR is showing such consideration to the children, i know a lot of parents read the books (like me) but i think the children get so much more from them then us adults do. I'm glad that they will be the first to question her about it.

Snap, I hate being American......ok, not really but I do hate George Bush. Well, that's really cool especially for the kids who win! I wish I could be one of them. Man, I would kill just to see J.K. Rowling, man. But I mean, I guess I couldn't have gone anyway because I'm going to summer school. I don't need summer school, but I wanted to go because I'm taking it at my dream school (Saint Ignatius, a.k.a S.I.), so..yeah. I doubt I'll get to go to S.I. though because it is soo expensive, but oh well.

Oh! I'm so excited about the new book and hearing J.K read it will be awesome. I just have to figure out what station it will be on where I live so that I can tape it. Why is it that everything exciting happens on the other side of the world? I really wish I was going to England this summer instead of next. Oh well, I'm very happy for those kids that get to listen to J.K read and also get a signed copy of the book.
